This week, I had the privilege of being in Panama for Essence of Luxury, the flagship trade event by & Takumians by Traveller Made.
Two names. One philosophy.
Serandipians are believers in serendipity. Travel designers who understand that the most extraordinary journeys are never purely logistical. They are felt, remembered, and retold.
Takumians draw from the Japanese takumi, meaning master artisan. A community built around a single conviction: that excellence in travel is a craft, and craftsmanship demands intention, precision, and soul.
Being in that room, surrounded by some of the most discerning luxury travel minds in the world, was a reminder of why I chose this industry. Two voices in particular sharpened something I already carry as a personal commitment.
Benoît Heilbrunn put it plainly: “Novelty is not innovation. Creativity is connecting two distinct universes.” He challenged us to stop watching the competition and start watching the consumer. The best ideas, he argued, come from entirely different categories of business.
Alberto Cavalli went further. He spoke about changing the rules of the game without losing sight of who you are. And he laid out what he calls “inspiring intuitions” for anyone who wants to be truly audacious: Surprise. Advance. Transform. Transmit and train. Invest.
River cruising, at its finest, is itself an act of craftsmanship. Intimate ships, handcrafted itineraries, spaces designed for genuine encounter. That is the story I am here to tell across Latin America, and events like Essence of Luxury are where those conversations begin.
Grateful for the connections made in Panama. More to come. 🌊
