After over a decade of success in offering Peru’s traditional tourism highlights on custom-built tours, Escaped to Latin America has created a boutique culinary brand, Wine Tours of Peru, to offer a unique insight into the fascinating, emerging wine and Pisco region in the desert landscape of Ica, south of Lima.

Owner Gary Sargent, who was born and bred in England, but is now a naturalised Peruvian, explains: ‘The idea all stemmed from my own love of Peru’s food and drink! Not only does the region have little-known vineyards, employing both traditional and modern production methods; but it is also very culturally interesting, with the cuisine and wine production reflecting the influences of multiple migrations to Peru, since the arrival of the Conquistadors.’

With the increase in tourism in the region, there are now many more iconic and luxurious properties to stay at, so you will be very comfortable while enjoying the area’s many historic and cultural highlights.

For these reasons, Gary urges visitors to ‘think outside the wine box’ and explore Peru’s vineyards!

Many people do not make it as far as Nazca on their Peru tours, especially because you can now fly over the Nazca Lines from Ica, which is two hours (each way) closer to Lima. Yet, for those who can make the extra effort and have the time available to travel through one of the driest places on Earth…
