Pelagic Birding Peru - Nature Expeditions

Pelagic Birding Peru - Nature Expeditions Nature Expeditions is a Peru's leading marine and coastal ecotourism company. Nature Expeditions operates its own small fleet of four vessels and power boats.

We are pioneering pelagic birding, whale and dolphin watching, scuba diving and sea kayaking in Peru. Where else in the world could you see, in just one trip, up to five storm petrel species, several albatross species as well as shearwaters, petrels, terns, skuas, gulls, bo***es, cormorants etc.? On Nature Expeditions Full Pelagic Birding Trips you will see, even in our winter (June – October) whe

n migrants are absent, about 30 coastal and pelagic bird species, whales, dolphins and sea lions. Be sure to see the key species of a birders wish list like Markam’s, Hornby’s, Wedge-rumped, Wilson’s and Elliot’s storm petrels, Waved albatross, Buller’s albatross, Shy albatross, the endangered Peruvian diving petrel, the endemic Inca tern and Peruvian seaside cinclodes, to just name a few. The “Ocean Spirit” a 29 foot power boat, being equipped with two 200 hp outboard engines and an emergency toilet offers comfortable seating space for up to 12 birders and still leaves space to walk and change positions for best views. With a comfortable maximum speed of up to 30 mph we are making sure that you do not lose time in marine travel and have maximum time for chumming and bird observation. We are using specialist chum made of fish oil and frozen fish guts, attracting hundreds of birds in less than 5 minutes. The “Ocean Spirit” is a registered research vessel. She comes with all necessary permits for offshore travel and meets not only all of the safety standards of the Peruvian coast guard, but also the US-Safety standards. Your trip will be monitored online by our ground staff in real-time using the SPOT-safety system, which allows us to see the ships position at any time on google earth and get the exact GPS position. The alarm functions of SPOT will allow us to immediately react on the slightest problem occurring. If you want to get out to the Peruvian continental shelf break and see all these birds, if you want to travel fast and get maximum time with the birds, if you want to travel safely and be guided by professionals: Nature Expeditions pelagic birding trips should be your choice:

You can put an end to the killing of thousands of dolphins and sharks in Peru now!!!

The Peruvian long-line shark fishing fleet is not only responsible for the illegal killing of thousands of dolphins as shark bait. They are also on the way to exterminate the shark population itself. Latest statistics proof that more than 90% of fished sharks are juveniles, this being a clear indicator for severe overfishing and in itself an illegal act according to Peruvian fishing laws. Help us to stop this!

You can stop the use of dolphins as shark bait in Peru now!!

Stefan Austermühle, Executive Director of Mundo Azul has been travelling one month undercover on a Peruvian shark fishing boat in order to expose the illegal killing of dolphins as shark bait in Peru. He says: ¨Dolphins are systematically harpooned to be cut into pieces and serve as free fish bait. It is terrible to witness the cruelty these wonderful intelligent animals do suffer. I will never forget this.” You can help Stefan to put an end to this http://www.loveanimals.org/save-perus-dolphins.html

End Slaughter of Dolphins for Shark bait! Each year 15,000 dolphins are brutally killed for use as shark bait. This crime can be stopped with your help. (Warning: graphic images) BlueVoice, in partnership with Mundo Azul, has documented the brutal slaughter of up to 15,000 dolphins by Peruvian shark…
