Nazca Lines Flights

Nazca Lines Flights We organize especial flights over the Nazca & Palpa Lines. We also offer land tours to all archaeolo and 500 A.D.[1] The individual figures vary in complexity.

The Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. They were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The high, arid plateau stretches more than 80 km (50 mi) between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana about 400 km south of Lima. Although some local geoglyphs resemble Paracas motifs, scholars believe the Nazca Lines were cre

ated by the Nazca culture between 500 B.C. Hundreds are simple lines or geometric shapes; more than 70 are zoomorphic designs of animals such as birds, fish, llamas, jaguars, and monkeys, or human figures. Other designs include phytomorphic shapes such as trees and flowers. The designs are shallow lines made in the ground by removing the reddish pebbles and uncovering the whitish/grayish ground beneath. The largest figures are up to 1,200 ft (370 m) in length.[2] Scholars differ in interpreting the purpose of the designs but, in general, they ascribe religious significance to them.[attribution needed]

Due to its isolation and to the dry, windless, and stable climate of the plateau, the lines have mostly been naturally preserved. Extremely rare changes in weather may temporarily alter the general designs. As of 2012, the lines are said to have been deteriorating due to an influx of squatters inhabiting the lands.[3]

Contrary to the popular belief that the lines and figures can only be seen with the aid of flight, they are visible from atop the surrounding foothills.

https://mysteryperu.com/tour-item/nazca-lines-full-day-program-from-lima/

We had a fantastic time taking in the magnificent and mysterious Nazca lines, and now rank it as one of the 'must-do' things in Peru, if not South America.

Here are our tips to help you do just that.
TAKE ANTI-NAUSEA MEDS
We both definitely have more robust stomachs these days, but this flight can feel a little like being in a fighter plane if you're not used to it! Hard lefts and rights are apparently essential to getting the best view, but can make even the most seasoned traveller a little queasy.

If you have a history of motion sickness, or are a little worried that nausea could ruin your flight, pop a pill before taking to the skies. And, if this doesn't work, there are still sick bags available...

LEAVE YOUR CAMERA BEHIND
We know this probably sounds crazy coming from a couple of photographers but, trust us, you'll appreciate the Lines much more with your own eyes than through a lens. You're only in the air for around thirty minutes and, in this time, will zip over about fifteen shapes etched into the desert.

Some of these can be pretty difficult to spot (despite the pilot's running narrative) and your time over each is fleeting. If you're fumbling about trying to find them, get your camera primed, re-find them and finally take a few photos, the flight will be over before you know it and the experience will not have been so special. Taking photos is also the quickest way to make the nausea worse (we say this from experience!).

Plus, unless you've got a zoom lens on a very decent camera, your photos aren't going to be that great anyway. Sure, maybe take a couple photos throughout the flight for the memory but, believe us, you'll enjoy it so much more if you put the camera away.

TRY AND GET AN EARLY FLIGHT
Whilst the Nazca lines will be impressive at any time of day, pilots that fly regularly state that visibility is better and turbulence lower if you take your flight between 7 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.

There are flights leaving continually, so getting an early one shouldn't be too difficult; just ensure you state this preference when booking with a company.

JUST DO IT!
We cannot recommend highly enough the experience that we had that day. The Lines really are one of history's most enduring and impressive mysteries and to be given the chance to view them from above is not an experience you are likely to forget.

As we've said before, many people come to Peru for Machu Picchu, but we left with the Nazca Lines etched in our mind. SOURCE; www.alongdustyroads.com

Nasca Lines The Buried Secrets

Etched, as if by giants, onto the arid moonscape of Peru´s southern desert lies one of Man's greatest mysteries: the Nasca Lines. More than 15,000 geometric and animal- likepatterns have been discovered criss-crossing the pampas like a vast puzzle.

Who built them and what was their purpose? Ancient racetracks, landing strips for aliens, or perhaps a giant astronomical calendar ? And are the Lines connected to the gruesome discovery of large cache's of severed human heads.

Now, after decades of misunderstanding, modern archaeology may finally have the answer. Excavations in the surrounding mountains are uncovering extraordinary clues about the people who made them and why. A long-since vanished people, called the Nasca, flourished here between 200BC and 700AD. But the harsh environment led them to extreme measures in order to survive.

Archaeologist Christina Conlee recently made an extraordinary find: the skeleton of a young male, ceremonially buried but showing gruesome evidence of decapitation. In place of the missing human head a "head jar" decorated with a striking image of a decapitated head with a tree sprouting from its skull. Conlee wonders who this person was? Why was he beheaded and yet buried with honor.

Was he a captive taken in battle, or could he have been a willing sacrifice? And did his decapitation have anything to do with the lines ? The discovery of large caches of human heads adds grisly weight to Conlee's theories and helps unravel one of Man's great mysteries.
