"I had the privilege of experiencing the Aranui expedition to the Austral Islands.
It was a very transformational journey in that remote part of "The Islands of Tahiti".
As I write these lines, my mind is transported there again and my heart swells with emotion as I reminisce about the particular smell of the fara hinano – the fruit of the pandanus tree –used to make leis in the Austral Islands, the taste of the remu – a local seaweed – of Rimatara, or of the sweet, juicy watermelon in Tubuai, or simply the fresh baked bread of Rapa with its local berry jam and butter melting on the warm bread.
Of course, the beautiful motu piscine in Raivavae cannot be forgotten! I found this place to be the most beautiful of our islands.
The Austral Islands have entered my soul in an unexpected way.
I found Raivavae to be the most beautiful island I have ever seen.
Rimatara is the island that has captured my heart.
Rapa was the island that brought me to tears... and some things cannot be described. They have to be experienced...
