Through a collaborative initiative by the Department of Tourism - Soccsksargen Office, together with Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape, Coast Guard District Southern Mindanao, LGU Kiamba, LGU Maitum and the Philippine Technical Divers, an Exploratory Dive Assessment (EDA) is underway. This joint effort ensures that we effectively manage Sarangani Bay marine resources for tourism while prioritizing ecosystem conservation.

The baseline information gathered from this assessment will serve as a crucial foundation for future dive tourism development, marine conservation strategies, and sound site management.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ On-Shore Volunteers:

Footwear ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes (sneakers or boots). No sandals or flip-flops due to sharp debris and uneven sand.

Sun Protection โ˜€๏ธ: Hat, sunglasses, and reef-safe sunscreen.

Optional Gear ๐Ÿงค: Your own thick gardening gloves or a reusable bucket (we will also provide standard supplies!).

Safety Tools ๐Ÿ”ช : A dive knife or shears (essential for safely cutting tangled fishing lines and nets)

๐Ÿคฟ Underwater Cleanup Volunteers (Scuba & Freediving)

Dive Gear ๐Ÿฆบ: Mask, snorkel, fins, BCD, regulator, and weights. (If you need rental gear, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance).

Safety Tools ๐Ÿ”ช : A dive knife or shears (essential for safely cutting tangled fishing lines and nets) and a surface marker buoy (SMB).

Mesh Bags: Mesh utility bags for collecting underwater debris will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!

๐Ÿ’ง Hydration & Snacks: A reusable water bottle filled with water and some quick snacks.

This Ocean Month, and in line with the Dive SOX Philippines advocacy initiatives, we are putting conservation into action at KALEPA, Sultan Kudarat๐ŸŒŠโœจ

Together with our tourism partner agencies, LGUs and the academe, we rolled up our sleeves for a purposeful coastal cleanup and mangrove planting drive.

Why? Because a thriving marine ecosystem is the foundation of everything we do. It sustains our local fishers, protects our shores, and welcomes travelers from around the world. Our guiding principle is simple: We must secure a healthy ocean before we introduce tourism activities. ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒฑ

We officially wrapped up the final leg of the Sultan Kudarat Coastal Cleanup right here in Masaganang Kalamansig! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฆ€

From picking up trash along the shorelines to planting the seeds of katunggan, today was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when a community comes together. Our oceans and coastlines protect us, and itโ€™s our job to protect them back.
