This morning, like many passengers, I experienced the frustration of a cancelled flight. Bags packed, itinerary ready, mindset prepared—only to receive that one message we all dread: “Your flight has been cancelled.”
At first, nakakainis. Nakakabigla. But after checking the advisory and connecting the dots, malinaw na malinaw ang dahilan: may urgent safety update na kailangan agad sa Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
And yes—hindi lang Pilipinas ang apektado.
Worldwide po ito.
Walang malalang nangyari, but the incident was serious enough for experts to investigate.
Doon nalaman na extreme solar radiation might have affected a specific computer system ng A320 na may kinalaman sa pag-control ng galaw ng eroplano.
In short:
Kung may error dito—even for a split second—delikado.
Kaya naglabas ang Airbus ng immediate instruction to airlines worldwide:
“Check and replace this specific control unit before flying again.”
Meaning:
No check = no takeoff
No replacement = grounded ka muna
Walang exemption, kahit gaano pa ka-full ang flights today.
3. Sino ang apektado?
Halos lahat ng airlines na gumagamit ng A319, A320, at A321—including the newer Neo aircraft—ay kailangan sumunod.
That means domestic flights, international flights, big airlines, small airlines.
“If it’s not 100% safe, the plane stays on the ground.”
So ayun na nga..
Ngayong nasilip ko ang totoong dahilan, my cancelled flight suddenly made sense.
You never gamble with safety.
My cancelled flight is inconvenient, yes.
But if grounding planes saves lives, then grounding plans may also save us from bigger failures.
And for others who experienced the same inconvenience today, I hope this gives clarity:
your flight didn’t get cancelled dahil malas ka—it got cancelled because someone wanted to keep you alive.🙏
