Did you know MassKara was born from tragedy? 🎭

Today, MassKara is famous for its colorful costumes, smiling masks, music, dancing, and one of the biggest celebrations in the Philippines.

But its story began very differently.

MassKara was created in 1980, at a time when Bacolod and the Negros sugar industry were facing a serious economic crisis. The city was also grieving after the M/V Don Juan tragedy, which claimed hundreds of lives.

Instead of allowing those difficult times to define the city, Bacolod created a festival centered on smiles, celebration, and resilience.

That's what makes MassKara so special.
It's more than a festival.
It's a reminder that even in difficult times, Bacolod chooses to smile. 💛
