BRUSSELS (BEL) - [updated] - The Belgian tour operator Marc Saenen (www.hawaii-reizen.net) has 45 athletes scammed who had booked him a trip to the Hawaii Ironman on 21 October. Per person they paid between 2,000 and 2,500 euros for the trip, but there appears nothing arranged for them. Meanwhile Saenen disappeared. Also last years some athletes were the victims of Saenens practices. So last year was among the group of participants in the XTERRA World Championship on Maui and their supporters also significantly hampered by the fact that the trip was poorly organized. Discussed hotels and rental cars were not reserved. After much wrangling and pleading with Saenen came when everything will turn out right, but the group did not have to wait months for reimbursement of extra costs they had incurred as a result of the default of Saenen. UPDATE 13-10: In 2004 a group of Ironman-goers had the same experiences as the XTERRA-goers last year. Upon arrival, showed virtually nothing to be settled, and one had to shoot a lot of things on arrival itself. Even when given many months later money back

Frank Day,
Probably this email amaze you, but I think there are many people left with unanswered questions, including yourself. Perhaps create a few emails between us some clarity, so that the question "why?" a bit is cleared.
You know from the past that I'm not the bad person depicted now. I'm currently in the ground in shame. Shame before many people, especially the people of Latem, who have always defended me. These were friends that I have very disappointed.
Seeking certainly no understanding. At most forgiveness. Forgiveness for things that I myself do not have liked, but from circumstances have led to this disastrous result. So do not wait while I'm walking with money from the people. I have currently enough cash to survive at most two months. If I already live. I'm not going to wrap myself in self-pity comment. What has happened is unforgivable. Get forgiveness will be difficult enough.
It, however, was a process of a number of years. Filling a process of wells wells. I thought I was going to get out, but the last hole was too deep.
Last week, when the bomb exploded, my first reaction was to make an end. Fortunately, my subconscious mind this irreversible deed undone, because who would have something to do? The only thing I can do now is to start a new life. How difficult it will be. A new life, with my qualities (sic) will make it possible to compensate the victims. Hopefully without new wells. Utopian life?
A reader at a forum wrote a heartfelt f**k-you to myself. A reader who a few years ago myself checked in heaven because of my hospitality and superb arranging his vacation. It will be the disappointment, the same disillusionment that I have done to myself. No excuses ... ..no pity ... ..
A number of people, including several clients, sent me encouraging emails. For others it remains an acid, the "why?" - Demand will continue to bubble up. I started to write a kind of "memoirs". Not to immerse myself in self-pity. On the contrary, it is an answer to the many friends I've disappointed. My sincere apologies to LTTL Jim Beuselinck, Johan Anthonis, etc, etc. But especially to my children and family.
Hopefully I can get all of these people ever look back into the eyes ... Right now my mirror too much.
Time will tell.
Marc

Tour organizer scams Iron Man athletes
Read in HLN.
so what? Would you say.
Were it not for the fact that the man looks great like an ex-Sabena employee, who also pulled such antics in the 80s.

At the time, Marc was a counter clerk at Sabena. In that capacity he wrote out tickets. Tickets could be paid for in cash or invoiced. So Marc wrote out a proportional number of invoices, even though the customers had paid in cash. The cash did not go to Sabena and the invoices were not sent to the (fictional) companies either. You understand what I mean.
Marc is now being tracked down internationally. Not at the time. He had to pay back to Sabena the hundreds of thousands that he then put in his pockets*. And how did the Sabena do that?
Sabena did not fire him, but left him to work for reimbursement and withheld funds from his salary.
He was one of the rare Sabeners who was sure not to be fired, at least not until his debt was repaid....
However, the people had been warned.
Not many may have known about his Sabena past, but others had already warned in forums, way back in 2002.
If you are going to Hawaii, NEVER go with Marc Saenen of Hawaii Reizen (known locally as Rainbow Reservations)

*According to he told, he needed the money because he had met an Irishman who married and had a child - the order is not clear to me anymore - he had to have the money to buy a pram, later that car turned out to be a to be a Ford Coupe.....
WARNING !!!
Go to Hawaii, then NEVER Marc Saenen Hawaii Travel (locally known as Rainbow Reservations).
Marc, originating in Belgium, which is located in the city of Kaunakakai on the island of Molokai. He has a nice website with a lot of positive feedback from customers. Because we wanted a vacation where everything (air travel, car hire and accommodation) in advance was settled, we have discussed this with him and paid in full in advance. Because we wanted to visit and wanted to see lots of different islands, it went to 8 different accommodations.
Once in Hawaii, however, showed the reservations of the accommodations knocking almost nothing. If there was no reservation, or was only partly paid. In more than half of the cases we had to pay yet, while Marc had already paid! It was a blow to us as it turned out a nice mountain hut where we would stay 3 nights was not booked and was fully booked. We had to return empty-handed from the park to the city and there find a hotel.
Marc proved very difficult to achieve. He did not respond to messages left on his answering machine. At times when he answered the phone, he always had an explanation for what had gone wrong, but he took no action to rectify the matter or to prevent worse. Fortunately, he proved willing to pay us back. This was not without a struggle. We got a check that we could collect from the bank. However, once arrived at the bank revealed the check is not covered. The next day there was enough money in his account and got our money back.
The air and the car went always well until the last flight from one island to the next. The airline could not get money from Marc's credit card. Luckily we had information about a second card from him, and the airline was willing to use it without his permission (he was once unreachable). Otherwise we would have had to pay for this too.
The pinnacle was the last accommodation, a nice bed and breakfast we had found himself on the Internet (the other accommodations were suggestions of Marc). While Marc had reported us months earlier he had reserved this turned out on arrival that this B & B had never heard from him. They were full but we were able to post elsewhere. This was in a spacious house but again Marc had let us down and we were able to pay for the facility itself. This money we have his credit, while we are in the Netherlands.
In short: this man is not capable to do what you pay him for, he provides very poor service and is indifferent to complaints. A big disappointment.
