The John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) will be starting the demonstration run of the electric vehicle transport shuttle service within the jurisdiction of Camp John hay (CJH) to help boost accessibility, reduce traffic congestion and enhance visitor experience within the zone by next week.
The announcement was made by JHMC president and chief executive officer Manjit T. Lingh Reandi during the simple rites to celebrate his first 100 days in office that was held at the John hay Convention Center.
On 24 June 2025, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and its subsidiary John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) formalized their partnership with South Korea-based Device Design Co. Ltd. and Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative (CBSTC) with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the implementation of the pilot run, which aims to assess the viability, performance, and community impact of the proposed intra-zone transport service.
Reandi claimed that the trial run will involve an initial three units of electric vehicles that will operate around the former American rest and recreation center with no fare to be collected from passengers who will be availing the said shuttle service.
The JHMC official pointed out that one of the primary purposes of the electric vehicle shuttle service is to entice residents and visitors to visit the zone and witness the significant changes that had been implemented since the State-owned Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and JHMC took over the property from the embattled private developer.
Earlier, the BCDA and JHMC had been announcing that CJH and its facilities amenities are open to the public.
Further, the operation of the electric vehicle shuttle service is part of BCDAβs commitment to help the city and the community in addressing emerging urban issues while fulfilling its promise of taking care of the environment and Baguioβs natural charm and beauty which serves as a natural pull for visitors to make the city their must-see destination.
Part of the purpose of the electric vehicle shuttle service, according to Reandi, is to highlight BCDAβs innovation-driven outlook for its properties and its willingness to embrace climate-resilient mobility solutions to drive sustainable development, enhance efficiency and create smarter, future-ready communities in the future.
The pilot shuttle service will loop around designated stations around CJH with pre-determined routes and schedules that will be announced soonest prior to the start of operations next week.
