Burnham Lake Set to Reopen This July
Burnham Lake, one of Baguio City's most iconic landmarks, is expected to welcome visitors once again this July 2026 as its major rehabilitation project nears completion.
According to the Baguio City Government, the restoration of the historic lake is now around 80% complete, bringing the city closer to reopening one of the country's most beloved public parks.
The rehabilitation focused on restoring the lake's health through extensive dredging and clean-up operations that removed decades of accumulated silt and waste. Eco-friendly water filtration systems have also been installed to improve water quality, while native aquatic plants are being reintroduced to help revive the lake's natural biodiversity.
With the reopening, Burnham Lake's famous boating activities will return under stricter environmental and safety regulations designed to protect the lake for future generations. Local cooperatives will manage the boating services, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for residents while promoting responsible tourism.
Visitors can also expect upgraded facilities, including redesigned walkways, benches, and viewing decks that combine Burnham Park's historic charm with modern safety standards.
To celebrate the occasion, the city is preparing a grand reopening program featuring cultural performances, a civic parade, and a symbolic first boat ride led by city officials.
More than restoring a tourist destination, the rehabilitation of Burnham Lake reflects Baguio City's commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing sustainable urban development. As the heart of Burnham Park, the lake's reopening will once again provide a gathering place for families, locals, and tourists, reaffirming Baguio's enduring identity as the Summer Capital of the Philippines.
