Catch the "University of Baguio Christmas Cantata: A Journey to Bethlehem" on December 7 at Rose Garden, Burnham Park

The staging of the Christmas Cantata is a long-standing university tradition. It began in the late 1960s, overseen by the late Sir Emmet Asuncion. The Cantata was attended by the faculty as well as all of the high school students at the time.

The highlight of the event was the singing of Christmas songs as the University of Baguio's founders, Tatay and Nanay Bautista, lit the candle and passed it on to the department heads and students until the entire gymnasium was lit. The majority of the songs were Latin, but they eventually evolved into a mix of Latin, English, and Tagalog songs.

The University of Baguio has continued to enchant its stakeholders and guests over the years by innovating its Christmas cantata. Performers and venues are occasionally modified to keep up with the times.

This year, the talented UB Chamber Orchestra, UB Voices Chorale, KORO STELA with Guest Choirs PCNHS Koro Pino and BCU Chamber Choir are ready to provide the audience with a memorable, heartwarming, and mesmerizing holiday experience.

𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸, 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗪𝗗 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀

Results of the initial microbiological test on water samples collected from various water sources of the BWD showed ‘𝗡𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘' for Thermotolerant Coliform Organisms (commonly referred to as f***l coliforms) based on the summary of laboratory analyses conducted on 09 January 2024, following reported complaints of acute gastroenteritis.

The water samples subjected for testing were collected from BWD water sources supplying most of the Central Business District particularly Harrison Deepwell, Market Deepwell, Camp Allen Tank, City Hall Deepwell, Malvar 2 Deepwell, and Kisad Deepwell.

In addition, test results of the water samples taken from SM City Baguio’s cistern tank and at the water meter located along the parking extension returned negative for bacterial contaminants. The cistern tank is supplied by the BWD to augment their daily water demand, on top of their water deliveries from private haulers.

All nine (9) water samples collected produced negative results via the chromogenic/enzyme substrate rapid test which are compliant with the 2017 Philippines National Standard for Drinking Water in respect to f***l coliform organisms. This test is used for the rapid detection and identification of microorganisms within 18-24 hours.

Meanwhile, BWD is closely working and coordinating with the Local Government of Baguio through the City Health Services Office (CHSO) and other offices to facilitate the testing of all the district’s water sources including the collection of samples from private water suppliers/delivery services to help contain the gastrointestinal outbreak within the identified areas only and prevent its spread in other parts of the city.

Presently, BWD has a total of sixty-three (63) deepwells, seventy-seven (77) pumping stations, four (4) spring sources, and two (2) rainwater harvesting facilities, serving a total of 48,450 active connections (as of 31 December 2023). -𝘽𝙒𝘿 𝙋𝙄𝙊
