The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) has welcomed the PITX-Banaue, Ifugao route operated by G.V. Florida Transport Inc.

You can buy your tickets at PITX’s Ticket Booth 6 (Counter 7). From PITX, the bus will pass through the following towns:

THE TERRACES WERE NOT CREATED BY A SINGLE ARCHITEC OR ENGINEER BUT BY COUNTLESS FARMERS WHOSE KNOWLEDGE WAS REFINDED OVER CENTURIES

One of the most remarkable questions often asked about the Ifugao Rice Terraces is how the ancestors of the Ifugao people were able to build such massive structures without formal engineering education. The answer lies in generations of indigenous knowledge, careful observation of nature, and centuries of experience passed down from one generation to another.

Long before modern engineering schools existed, the Ifugao people developed their own understanding of land, water, and construction through daily interaction with their environment. They studied the behavior of mountain slopes, identified stable ground, and learned how water flowed through the landscape. This knowledge allowed them to transform steep mountainsides into productive agricultural terraces.

The construction of the terraces required immense labor and cooperation. Families and communities worked together to carve steps into the mountains, build stone and mud walls, and create irrigation systems that carried water from forests and mountain springs to the rice fields below. Every terrace was carefully designed to follow the natural contours of the land, reducing erosion and ensuring a steady supply of water.

The Ifugao also understood the importance of watershed management. They protected the forests above the terraces because these forests served as natural water reservoirs. This connection between forest, water, and agriculture demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of environmental engineering long before the term even existed.

What may appear today as a marvel of engineering was built through generations of observation, experimentation, and accumulated wisdom. The terraces were not created by a single architect or engineer but by countless farmers whose knowledge was refined over centuries.

The Ifugao Rice Terraces stand as proof that engineering is not only learned in classrooms. It can also emerge from deep cultural knowledge, practical experience, and a close relationship with the natural world. The enduring strength of the terraces is a testament to the ingenuity, perseverance, and collective wisdom of the Ifugao people.
