Hidden beneath the modern houses of Barangay Santa Monica (๐๐š๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐›๐œ๐š๐ง โ€” old name) in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, lie the ruins of a "lost" town.

Locals call it Daan nga Ili (Old Town), and it is believed to be the original site of Sarrat before it was burned down during the 1815 insurrection. Today, you can still find remnants of an ancient brick church and a stone bridgeโ€”silent witnesses to a community that crossed the Padsan River over 200 years ago to rebuild what we now know as the town of Sarrat!
