A meaningful cultural immersion in Bontoc yesterday as 85 students and faculty members from University of the Philippines Baguio visited Barangay Maligcong for an educational field experience on the community’s rich cultural heritage and traditional rice farming practices.

The anthropology students first viewed the cultural documentary on the rice agricultural cycle, highlighting the rituals, traditions, and indigenous practices of the community at Maligcong Elementary School.

An engaging exchange followed as the students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from the elders of Maligcong.

To complete the experience, the visitors explored the breathtaking rice terraces through the day circuit trail within the terraces, allowing them to appreciate not only the beauty of the landscape but also the culture, history, and way of life preserved by the community.

Thank you to the faculty of Maligcong Elem. School, Maligcong elders, tour guides, and community members for warmly sharing your knowledge, stories, and hospitality.

The Office of the President has officially declared Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as a special (non-working) day in the Municipality of Bontoc, Mountain Province, in line with the celebration of its Founding Anniversary.

This declaration was made through Proclamation No. 1013, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin by the authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

The proclamation underscores the importance of giving the people of Bontoc the opportunity to fully take part in the festivities and celebrate the occasion as the community commemorates another significant milestone in its history.

With this, Bontoc officially looks forward to celebrating its 117th Foundation Anniversary on September 16 with unity, joy, and pride in its rich heritage and culture.//SASP
