The formation of a child does not begin and end in the classroom. Before children become students, they are first members of a family. The values they learn at home—respect, discipline, compassion, accountability, and the value of every human life—help shape who they become.

When violence occurs in schools, let us not place the entire burden on teachers. Teachers have a vital role in educating and guiding students, but families and the wider community also share the responsibility of forming young people and creating an environment where peace and respect can flourish.

It takes a home, a school, and a community working together to raise children who choose compassion over violence, respect over hatred, and peace over conflict.

May we ask for the intercession of the Holy Family—Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, that our homes may become the first schools of love, respect, discipline, and peace, and that our schools may become safe places where every child is valued and protected.

Holy Family, pray for our families, teachers, students, and schools. Guide us in building a culture of peace. Amen. 🙏

HOLY PATRON SAINTS OF TEACHERS,
PRAY FOR OUR EDUCATORS!

In light of recent remarks linking teachers or school environments to a culture of violence, let us remember that teachers are not the enemy, nor are they inherently a bad influence. They are educators, mentors, and guides who strive to form not only the minds but also the hearts of their students.

From St. John Baptist de La Salle, the principal patron saint of teachers, to St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. John Bosco, and St. Francis de Sales, these holy men and women remind us that teaching is more than a profession—it is a vocation to educate, guide, serve, and inspire.

Above all, teachers are called to follow the greatest Teacher of all—Jesus Christ. He taught with wisdom, patience, compassion, and love, showing us that true teaching is not simply about imparting knowledge, but about helping shape lives.

May we never forget the many teachers who patiently guide, encourage, protect, and pray for their students. May we also seek truth and accountability without unfairly blaming an entire profession for the actions of individuals.

Holy patron saints of teachers, pray for all our educators.
Jesus, Teacher of teachers, guide and strengthen them as they form minds, touch hearts, and shape lives. Amen. 🙏📚

An 81-year-old retired bank clerk in Japan opened an email from Apple headquarters.

Someone there really wanted to meet her. It turned out to be Tim Cook.

Masako Wakamiya of Kanagawa had spent 43 years at a bank, starting at 18.

She didn't touch a computer until she was almost 60 — she bought one to stay connected while caring for her 90-year-old mother.

At 75 she took up piano. In her 70s she joined a seniors' computer club and started making art in Excel spreadsheets.

Then she got an iPhone and noticed something: every game required fast reflexes and swiping. Nothing was made for old people.

So at 81, with a mentor teaching her over Skype, she learned Apple's Swift language and wrote one herself.

Hinadan asks players to arrange 12 traditional dolls in the correct order for Japan's Doll Festival. Big fonts. Tap only — no swiping.

It launched in February 2017 and pulled about 53,000 downloads in a year.

Apple flew her to WWDC in California, where Cook introduced her as the world's oldest developer.

She told him computer screens are hard for old people to use.

The next year she gave a keynote at UN headquarters. Today, at nearly 90, she uses ChatGPT, VR, and a robot vacuum, and still lectures.

Her rule: "If you're still hesitating, I've already finished."
