The issuance of said resolution aligns with Borongan City Mayor Dayan Agda’s firm opposition to any potential mineral mining activity in the city, as expressed by the local chief executive in the series of meetings held on DENR-MGB’s announcement of several areas in Borongan being “open for mining application”.
SP Resolution No. 59, s. 2025 urges the DENR-MGB and other relevant agencies to “deny or revoke any permits or applications for mining operations that threaten the ecological integrity of the city.”
It further enjoins all barangays, civil society organizations, church groups, youth, and other stakeholders to “remain vigilant and united in protecting the natural environment of Borongan for the benefit of current and future generations.”
