CALASIAO TOURISM OFFICE, SB COMMITTEE ON TOURISM CONVENE PUBLIC HEARING ON TOWN'S FIRST COMPREHENSIVE TOURISM CODE
The Municipal Tourism Office, under Officer-in-Charge Ms. Tammy Marie Fernandez, together with the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Tourism chaired by Hon. Kyle Arthur Gaspar, led the public hearing on the proposed Comprehensive Tourism Code of Calasiao on July 29, 2026, at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall.
The hearing, gathered tourism partner stakeholders — travel and tours operators, hotel and accommodation establishments, civil society organizations, barangay officials, transport representatives, and partner agencies including the DILG and the Philippine National Police — for the first full public consultation on the measure.
Once enacted, the Code will be the first comprehensive tourism ordinance in the history of the municipality, establishing the legal framework for the management, promotion, regulation, and advancement of Calasiao's tourism industry.
Concerns and recommendations from the floor
The tourism trade sector pushed for community seminars and DOT-supported training programs for tricycle and jeepney operators, including a proposal to develop drivers into local tour guides. Also raised were the "two S's" of Security and Safety, the need for adequate and accessible parking facilities, and the hesitation of some residents to engage foreign visitors due to language confidence.
The accommodation sector relayed observations from foreign tourists on the cleanliness and maintenance of the Robinsons overpass, and requested the visible posting of a fair and transparent fare matrix.
From the civil society sector came proposals for an official slogan for Calasiao, a mini-bus service for guided visits allowing tourists to meet the town's p**o makers and blacksmiths, and the establishment of a souvenir shop.
All concerns and recommendations raised will be consolidated by the Tourism Office and endorsed to the Sangguniang Bayan for deliberation and integration into the final draft of the ordinance.
