CALASIAO TOURISM OFFICE, SB COMMITTEE ON TOURISM CONVENE PUBLIC HEARING ON TOWN'S FIRST COMPREHENSIVE TOURISM CODE

The Municipal Tourism Office, under Officer-in-Charge Ms. Tammy Marie Fernandez, together with the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Tourism chaired by Hon. Kyle Arthur Gaspar, led the public hearing on the proposed Comprehensive Tourism Code of Calasiao on July 29, 2026, at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall.

The hearing, gathered tourism partner stakeholders — travel and tours operators, hotel and accommodation establishments, civil society organizations, barangay officials, transport representatives, and partner agencies including the DILG and the Philippine National Police — for the first full public consultation on the measure.

Once enacted, the Code will be the first comprehensive tourism ordinance in the history of the municipality, establishing the legal framework for the management, promotion, regulation, and advancement of Calasiao's tourism industry.
Concerns and recommendations from the floor

The tourism trade sector pushed for community seminars and DOT-supported training programs for tricycle and jeepney operators, including a proposal to develop drivers into local tour guides. Also raised were the "two S's" of Security and Safety, the need for adequate and accessible parking facilities, and the hesitation of some residents to engage foreign visitors due to language confidence.

The accommodation sector relayed observations from foreign tourists on the cleanliness and maintenance of the Robinsons overpass, and requested the visible posting of a fair and transparent fare matrix.

From the civil society sector came proposals for an official slogan for Calasiao, a mini-bus service for guided visits allowing tourists to meet the town's p**o makers and blacksmiths, and the establishment of a souvenir shop.

All concerns and recommendations raised will be consolidated by the Tourism Office and endorsed to the Sangguniang Bayan for deliberation and integration into the final draft of the ordinance.

CALASIAO SHOWCASES TOURISM BEST PRACTICES AT PTOA 3RD QUARTER GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The Municipality of Calasiao took center stage at the 3rd Quarter 2026 General Assembly of the Pangasinan Tourism Officers Association (PTOA), successfully held on July 28, 2026 at the Binmaley Training Center.

Leading the town's presentation was Tammy Marie Fernandez, OIC Tourism Officer of Calasiao, who shared the local government's programs, strategies, and initiatives that continue to strengthen its tourism industry — practices that other municipalities may adopt as models for their own destinations.

Calasiao's showcase comes at a pivotal moment for the municipality, which has been steadily building the policy and institutional groundwork for a more competitive tourism sector.

As part of the program, the PTOA paid a courtesy call on Binmaley Mayor Pedro "Pete" Merrera III, who expressed his full support for the association's advocacies. The mayor underscored the value of cooperation among Pangasinan's local governments in pursuing projects that expand tourism and bring the province's rich culture, history, and attractions to a wider audience.

Capping the agenda, Pangasinan Provincial Tourism Officer Maria Luisa Elduayan introduced the calendar of activities for Tourism Month this September, laying out the province-wide celebrations that local tourism offices, including Calasiao, are expected to support and localize.

Calasiao Tourism brings P**o Calasiao to El Nido Benchmarking Mission

Ms. Tammy Marie Fernandez, Officer-in-Charge of the Calasiao Tourism Office, represented the municipality in a province-wide benchmarking mission to this renowned island destination, joining fellow tourism officers from across Pangasinan under Batch 1 of the Pangasinan Tourism Officers Association (PTOA) learning program.

Ms. Fernandez brought along P**o Calasiao, the town's signature rice delicacy, sharing it with El Nido hosts as a gesture of goodwill and a taste of home during the province-wide exchange.

The delegation was received by the El Nido Municipal Tourism Office, where Municipal Administrator Christine Nicole Lim-Gabarra walked participants through the destination's approach to sustainable tourism, environmental protection, and community-based governance, the same practices credited with El Nido's standing as one of the country's premier island destinations.

For Calasiao, the visit comes at a timely moment. The municipality is in the final stretch of crafting its first-ever Tourism Code. Lessons from El Nido's model — particularly on stakeholder participation and environmental safeguards — offer a fresh reference point as the Tourism Office fine-tunes the ordinance's provisions.

The mission forms part of PTOA's broader initiative, supported by Gov. Ramon V. Guico III, to strengthen tourism governance across Pangasinan through shared learning among the province's local tourism offices.

On May 3, 2026, the image of 𝐒𝐞ñ𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐨 returns to His shrine — a humbling and meaningful moment that draws the curtain on this year's Calasiao Town Fiesta.

The welcoming rites were led by Mayor Patrick Agustin Caramat, and the Señor Divino Tesoro Officers, headed by Dr. Lourdes Fernandez together with the Gironella family, through a 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬 presided over by His Excellency, Most Rev. A brief contemporary presentation, a tribute to 𝐒𝐞ñ𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐨, was held on the same day at the Public Plaza.

From April 24 to May 2, the nine-day Novena gathered 𝟐𝟓,𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 — a testament to the enduring devotion of Calasiaoeños and pilgrims from near and far.

In commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), we honor the surrender of over 75,000 Filipino and American troops on April 9, 1942, who endured the infamous Bataan Death March—a testament to resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering bravery.

Originally declared as Bataan Day in 1961, this historic occasion was later renamed Araw ng Kagitingan in 1987 to also commemorate the defense of Corregidor and to honor all Filipino veterans who fought for our freedom.

Today, we remember their heroism.
