In solemn observance of the 136th Birth Anniversary of the late Senate President Jose Dira Avelino, the Father of Calbayog City, City officials led by Mayor Raymund Uy and Vice Mayor Rex Daguman participated in the ceremonial wreath offering at the Jose Dira Avelino Monument this morning.

Joining the commemoration were members of the Scouting movement from Calbayog City National High School, along with personnel from the Calbayog City Tourism Office, as we paid tribute to the life and enduring legacy of one of Calbayog’s greatest sons.

May the values of leadership, public service, and love for our city that Senate President Avelino exemplified continue to inspire present and future generations of Calbayognons. 🇵🇭

Today, August 5, 2026, is a Special Non-Working Day in Calbayog City as we commemorate the 136th Birth Anniversary of the Father of Calbayog City, the late Senate President Jose Dira Avelino.

As we honor his life and legacy, may this occasion remind us of his vision, leadership, and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of our beloved city.

May we continue to uphold the ideals he championed as we work together toward a brighter future for Calbayog.

The Calbayog City Tourism Office is delighted to be part of the 2nd Anniversary Celebration of the Samar First District Producers Cooperative.

Behind every local delicacy, handcrafted souvenir, and proudly made Samar product is a hardworking producer whose passion helps tell the story of our community. We are grateful that the members of this cooperative continue to supply many of the products featured at the Calbayog OTOP / Pasalubong Center, giving both locals and visitors a taste of the best that Samar has to offer.

The cooperative is led by its President, Ms. Lilibeth Bolito, whose leadership continues to inspire and empower fellow producers.

Joining the celebration were City Tourism Officer Ronald Ricafort, CACO OIC Salome Roleda, City Agriculturist Techie Pagunsan, Ian Chuca and Kimberly Hamorawon of the Calbayog Hotels and Restaurants Association (CHARA), and Ms. Jessa Jumaday from the Office of Rep. Stephen James Tan, whose presence underscored the importance of collaboration in supporting local producers and community development.

Congratulations to the Samar First District Producers Cooperative on reaching this milestone! Here’s to many more years of nurturing local enterprises, supporting our producers, and showcasing the finest products of Samar.

Together, we continue to strengthen the partnership between agriculture, entrepreneurship, tourism, and government—ensuring that every locally made product carries with it the pride, culture, and hospitality of our people.
