Hi, my name is Jayson Formilles but in Siargao I am known as CARDO, just like the persevering cop in the famous action TV show “Ang Probinsyano.” I was born and raised in this beautiful island of Siargao. I took up criminology during college and dreamed to be a policeman someday as I looked up to my uncles who are mostly men in uniform. But that dream faded... like a typical poor family story, my parents couldn’t afford to send me to school anymore. I only reached 3rd year and needed to look for a job to have a better chance at life. That’s why I looked for work in Manila with the help of my older sister who is based there. Life in Manila was much tougher than I imagined. I worked tirelessly for long straight hours without breaks everyday much more without a day-off. It eventually took a toll on me when one day I got very sick and couldn’t even get up from bed. There I was lying in bed, that’s when I thought about the island life back home. . . calm, fresh air, abundant seafood, and the surf. Yes! the SURF! I realized I could go back and try my best to earn a living by teaching surf as most of us kids growing up in the island learned about a thing or two about surfing. Now all is in the past, I’m currently coaching people basic surfing and organizing tours with my friends TATA and SUNSET. We help each other provide to our guests the best Siargao experience ever! What’s the difference from CARDO SURF AND TOUR SIARGAO from the rest? We are not just your typical tour guides, we are locals of this island sharing a piece of paradise we call home.
