With tourists once more flocking back to Boracay, is it now time to dispense with all of the old travel restrictions.

The requirement for confirmed hotel bookings stops most walk in customers from visiting the Island. Many backpackers like to arrive early and roam around looking for good deals and exploring different options. This in no way is a health hazard, so why the restriction on allowing them to do so?

Is the One Health Declaration Card (OHDC) really necessary? If a traveler has their vaccination card, or a negative RT/PCR test, plus a valid ID, is there a need for anything else?

These restrictions are cumbersome and appear to serve very little purpose.

We need to encourage tourism so that Boracay can once more reap the benefits that it has so long gone without.

The LGU has done a great job in keeping Covid from our shores, and the number of infections and mortality rate has remained low.

But it’s now time to follow most European countries and many of our Asian neighbours by lifting the unnecessary travel restrictions and get back to normal.
