AirAsia Philippines assures the travelling public that it remains fully operational, with flights and services continuing as scheduled across its network, subject to normal operational considerations such as weather and other standard factors affecting airline operations.

AirAsia Group views coordinated and sensationalised reports as part of a deliberate smear campaign that has long been occurring aimed at undermining fair competition in the Philippine aviation sector. Such narratives serve only the interests of those seeking to limit consumer choice and create conditions that could lead to a monopoly in the market. A monopoly benefits no one except dominant market players. For travellers, it often results in reduced competition, fewer choices and significantly higher airfares.

Tony Fernandes, Co-founder and Advisor of AirAsia Group said: “AirAsia has long championed affordable travel and will continue to stand firmly against any development that harms consumers or restricts access to air connectivity. AirAsia carries almost seven million guests in the Philippines annually and our commitment to the Philippines is absolute. We are deeply invested in the country, its people and its future. For over a decade, we have played a key role in democratising air travel, making flying accessible to millions of Filipinos who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to travel by air.

CHEAPER FLIGHTS

The
Board lowers the passenger and cargo fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights to Level 13 for 1 to 15 June, down from Level 15 in the second half of May.

Despite the reduction, surcharge levels remain sharply elevated compared to February’s Level 4 rate before the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East disrupted global oil markets.

✈️ NAIA vs. NMIA: The Future of Manila’s Airports

When the massive new airport in Bulacan (NMIA) opens, NAIA won't close down. Instead, Manila will shift to a two-airport system just like Tokyo (Haneda and Narita) or New York (JFK and LaGuardia).

Here is exactly how the roles will split, made simple:

🏢 NMIA (Bulacan) = The Heavy Lifter
-Think of the new Bulacan airport as the giant, international powerhouse.

• What it will handle: Huge long-haul flights such as from Europe, America, and Middle East, budget airlines (like Cebu Pacific/AirAsia), and massive cargo operations.

• The Vibe: A bustling, ultra-modern mega-hub built to handle millions of tourists.

🚗 NAIA (Pasay) = The Premium "City Airport"
-Because NAIA is right next to Makati and BGC, it becomes a fast, high-end gateway for business travelers.

• What it will handle: Short regional flights (like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo), domestic flights, and private corporate jets.

• The Vibe: Fast, quiet, and uncrowded. No more chaotic check-in lines or planes stuck waiting in circles to land.

🔧 Bonus: A Paradise for Plane Maintenance
-NAIA is already famous for aircraft servicing. With fewer commercial flights hogging the runways, aviation giants like Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) can easily roll massive double-decker planes in and out for heavy maintenance checks without causing flight delays for everyday passengers.

📊 Quick Summary

• NMIA Bulacan: Gets the big international traffic, budget airlines, and huge crowds.

• NAIA Pasay: Becomes a relaxed, premium airport for quick business trips and domestic flights.

In conclusion, Bulacan takes the heavy traffic so that NAIA can finally stop being overcrowded and start being efficient.
