This is Ube (oo-beh) 💜 — and this is what it looks like. A vibrant purple yam beloved in Filipino cuisine for its naturally sweet, velvety flavor and striking color. Commonly used in desserts, pastries, ice cream, cakes, and drinks — and yes, it tastes as good as it looks.

Meet John from Australia 🇩đŸ‡ș—my first street food tour guest for June! One of the happiest foodies I've met, and he was willing to try everything. June to September is usually a slow season, but here's hoping for more foodies and more bookings! đŸ€žđŸ˜‚

I am grateful for this month’s food tour booking through Airbnb Experiences . Thank you to Edie and friends from the UK and Ishan from India for being so excited to try Cebu’s local delicacies — especially the famous Tuslob Buwa (pig's brain) in Brgy. Pasil. Hope to welcome more tourists to Cebu soon for more authentic local food experiences.

Thank you, Anica , for recommending your parents join my Cebu food tour even after almost 2 years đŸ«¶ Your support truly means a lot. Thank you as well to Scott and Allison for booking the street food tour with me here on IG. I had so much fun spending the day with you both. I love how game you were to try new food and experiences — seeing your reactions made the tour even more worth it!

Fresh from a makeshift charcoal oven, Bibingka is classic Filipino street comfort food. This traditional "Kakanin" is made with rice flour and coconut milk, baked in banana leaves, and cooked with charcoal above and below for its signature smoky aroma. Simple, humble, and incredibly good. Glad I found a street vendor selling fresh bibingka along my walking food tour — though the downside is he may or may not show up every day. 😂

Met Freja and Sofia from Denmark. And guess what—they found me on TikTok first before booking through Airbnb Experiences, such small world!!! It's still crazy to me how social media connects people like this. Super grateful for moments like these.

If you love fish, one thing you definitely shouldn’t miss when visiting the Philippines is our national fish—bangus (milkfish). You can have it fried, grilled, or in soup, but pro tip: go for boneless because it naturally has a lot of tiny bones. When it’s cooked right, it’s not fishy at all—just soft, meaty, and literally melts in your mouth. Best paired with garlic rice and atsara (pickled papaya), especially if it’s fried or grilled. And if you’re exploring seafood in places like Cebu, don’t stop at bangus—here are other local favorites you should try:
🐟 Tanigue (Spanish mackerel) – meaty, steak-like, perfect for grilling or kinilaw (Filipino ceviche).
🐟 Yellowfin tuna – amazing raw as kinilaw or grilled belly (inihaw)—rich, fatty, and super satisfying.
🐟 Danggit (dried rabbitfish) – a Cebu breakfast classic, crispy, salty, and best with garlic rice and egg. Trust me—Filipino seafood hits differently when it’s fresh.

Cebu City is growing when it comes to weekend markets. If you’re visiting Cebu and can’t sleep because of jet lag, an early arrival—or you simply love exploring local spots—here are 2 of my favorite weekend markets you should check out. Both open at 7 AM, and all photos were taken at these two places.

Farmer’s Market at Marco Polo — every Saturday, 7 AM to 2 PM
This is my favorite weekend market because there’s always something new to try and discover every time I visit. So far, my top picks are the vegetarian stall Healthy U and another stall that sells beignets—both are so good! What makes this market unique is how it constantly surprises me with different food, drinks, and small businesses—some of which have even grown into full brands.

Cebu Sunday Market (Ayala Cebu Business Park) — every Sunday, 7 AM to 3 PM
Here, you can enjoy a morning stroll, a run, a pickleball game, or even a Zumba session while discovering local flavors and fresh produce. It’s the perfect way to spend your Sunday—good food, great finds, and community coming together.

Ended March on a high note with guests from the US. Huge thanks to Alycea and Brie for booking a street food tour with me! March was a bit slow with just 5 guests, but I’m staying hopeful for a busier April ahead 🙏
