El Nido and Boracay are Named Among the World’s 25 Top Island Beaches
El Nido in Palawan and Boracay were number 9 and number 2 on the “Condé Nast Traveler's” Best Island Beaches Readers' Choice Awards list.

That the Philippines has the some of the best beaches in the world is no secret to us, but we’re always happy to celebrate whenever our destinations get international recognition. Philippine beaches have been on the vaunted list of the World’s Best Beaches published by Condé Nast Traveler for a few years now, and — pandemic notwithstanding — we’ve done it again in 2020.

In the recently released list of honorees for the publication’s 25 Best Island Beaches in the World: 2020 Reader’s Choice Awards, El Nido in Palawan and Boracay were number 9 and number 2 on the list, respectively.

“Boracay is a screensaver brought to life, with dazzling white sand, so-clear-you-can-see-your-toes water, and a lush jungle backdrop, available to anyone willing to make the journey. The island used to fly under the radar with one of the most beautiful beaches in the world—but the secret’s out,” the accompanying article reads.

The same list describes El Nido as “home to around 50 white sand beaches—it’s impossible to choose just one—all of which are set around dramatic limestone formations and have the finest and whitest sand you’ll ever see. The water is so blindingly blue it makes the Caribbean Sea look murky in comparison. And the sunsets? Well, they’ll ruin you for life. Consider yourself warned.”

The same article notes that “Shockingly, Palawan remains steadily under the radar, even though it continues to rank highly in our Readers’ Choice Awards”, as Palawan topped the Reader’s Choice Awards in 2014 and 2015.

Earlier this year, Hidden Beach in El Nido was also named to Condé Nast Traveler’s list of Best Beaches in the World, citing its “imposing limestone cliffs and startlingly bone-white sand…separated from the turquoise ocean by a small keyhole-like opening, through which visitors must climb in order to access the lagoon.”

The Philippine Department of Tourism welcomed the citation, thanking travelers who voted for Boracay and El Nido, and emphasizing the safe reopening of local destinations. “We draw inspiration from this warm reception and solid vote of confidence from our satisfied patrons. As our destinations gradually reopen with health and safety measures in place, we will continue our conservation and protection efforts of these areas,” said Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
