On April 19, 2017, Mike Escoltura was on his way to Pilar on his motorbike when a speeding van hit him on a curve at broad daylight. The van was on the wrong lane and there was no way for Mike to negotiate the situation.

Mike had to endure the long travel to Butuan Doctors Hospital while remaining unconscious. His knees are shot, his chest and ribs are injured, and his head concussion rendered him unconscious. He is now at the ICU unit of Butuan Doctors where his vital signs show promise. He is also able to respond to his sister's voice.

He is still under observation and the doctors have to decide whether he needs brain surgery.

This isn't one of those drunken accidents. Mike Escoltura is a diligent student, an outstanding surfer, and a responsible son. Just last week, Mike and his twin brother, Mark, graduated with a degree in Criminology at the Siargao Island Institute of Technology. He has plans of taking the national board exam to join the Philippine National Police.

Mike was born in Catangnan on August 16, 1996 and is only 20 years old. He has lived in Cloud 9 all his life where he helps his family operate a small business across Cloud 9.

Although he was preoccupied with work and studies, Mike would find a way to surf everyday. He is a regular footer and his sharp and stylish approach is known across the island. He and Mark, the revered Escoltura brothers, are among the best surfers to ever come from Siargao.

Mike was crowned the Champion of the 2016 Vans National Surfing Competition - Juniors Division in Cloud 9. He also made it to the podium of the Siargao International Surfing Cup in 2015.

We need as much help as possible to raise money for his hospital bills, operations, medicine and other medical needs.
