I just finished 4 days as an official assessor for the Tour Guiding Practical Assessment at the Lapu-Lapu City College College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, evaluating Section 2A and Section 2B second-year students in actual field conditions.

This was more than a classroom exercise. These students were put in real tour-like situations, where they can't look at their notes, can't ask their professor, and can't pause to think too long.

In this profession, when you are on the spotlight to guide and entertain your guests, you either handle it or you don't.

And they handled it.

What separates a good tour guide from a great one isn't the memorization.

It's what happens when things don't go according to plan.

Problem-solving on the spot.

Staying calm when guests are restless.

Reading the room when the energy drops.

These students were able to show up and show what they’re capable of.

18 years in this field taught me that you can train knowledge, but you can't train character.

And what I saw in these students over 4 days?

That's character.

To the LLCC College of Tourism faculty, especially their Instructor Ms. Emmylou Tababa and the Dean, Dr. Nena Capitan, thank you for the trust.

To the students, great job. Tour guiding is a never-ending learning profession. Keep pushing and keep improving.

It was such an honor to be in the room with you and helping you prepare yourself for the future of tourism.

The EATOF Argao tour is the concluding technical and heritage tour for international delegates attending the 19th East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Federation (EATOF) General Assembly. Hosted by the Cebu Provincial Government under the theme “New EATOF, Go Glocal,” the three-day summit runs from September 2 to September 4, 2026.The delegation visits the municipality of Argao in southern Cebu to experience the province's heritage, cultural preservation, and sustainable local enterprise.

The 19th East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Federation (EATOF) General Assembly officially opened today, September 2, 2026, at the Mactan Expo in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.The three-day international forum runs from September 2 to September 5, 2026. Under the theme "New EATOF, Go Glocal," it brings together over 120 delegates, including governors, tourism officials, and industry stakeholders from member provinces across East and Southeast Asia.

My fellow CATG officers invited by City of Cebu Cultural and Historical Affairs Office (CHAO) actively attending a 3 day - Basic Conservation Training workshop for Tour Guides. Headed by a young passionate host and officer incharge Mr. Orland James Romarate.

A new circuit is in the works!

Spearheaded by our CATG president Lex Tyler, me, my fellow tour guides and several tour operators met up today to discuss a new tour circuit that will further boost Lapu-Lapu City tourism.
