A Forever Story

* The Feast Is The Silent Lagoon, subterranean lakes & mystical caves
* The Forever Story is a silence commanded of all comers to the lagoon Unless They Speak The Language Of The Lagoon as well as the yarns spun by the locals about the Giant Octopus, Crime, Punishment & Redemption.

Transgressors have been punished -- whipped on the Order of the Council of Tagbanua Tribal Elders of Coron Island.
Harsh you might say -- until you hear an Elder was himself whipped into line for cutting down some of the sacred Island's trees that grow thick & tall out of nutritious crags in the rugged limestone mountainsides. That Elder is now a legendary figure: he took his punishment and as a result has been the Island's paramount Leader for most of this century.

Should the wind remain light from the south and west, here's a photographic snippet of what's in store for 5 adventurous paddlers on their first day of their 8-day Calamian sea kayaking expedition. Bypassing the heavily-worn tourist spots for the remote and sacred east of Coron Island, they'll enter a lagoon that once commanded Silence on Pain of Punishment. They'll glide along the magical "time-tunnels" -- some 15 kms of pulsating, winding waterways, cut deep into the eroded towering limestone cliffs -- emerging hours later, but hypnotized to the belief they only entered the cave-like system moments earlier. Ah, what wonders await the intrepid travellers as they explore Indigenous owned and controlled Coron Island!
