The Civil Aeronautics Board has adopted a 15-day fuel surcharge cycle to allow a faster response to market changes, reduce the lag between actual fuel costs and applicable fuel surcharge levels, and help cushion the impact of fuel price volatility on both passengers and airline operations.
For travelers, the increase means domestic fuel surcharges will rise to PHP 253 to PHP 787 from the current PHP 117 to PHP 342 under Level 4. For international flights originating from the Philippines, the surcharge will increase to PHP 835.05 to PHP 6,208.98 from PHP 385.70 to PHP 2,867.82, depending on distance. Based on the CAB matrix, this translates to an increase of about 116 percent to 130 percent for domestic flights and about 116.5 percent for international flights.
