Mt. Fuji climbing season is returning for 2026 🏔️🇯🇵
Experience Japan’s most iconic summit with Elysian Expeditions.
The official 2026 climbing season will run from July to September, with trail openings scheduled as follows:
• Yoshida Trail: July 1 to September 10
• Subashiri Trail: July 1 to September 10
• Fujinomiya Trail: July 10 to September 10
• Gotemba Trail: July 10 to September 10
New regulations to manage overtourism will continue this year:
• Entry fee: ¥8,000 per climber
• Yoshida Trail capped at 4000 hikers daily
• Advance reservations strongly recommended
• Restrictions remain for overnight “bullet climbing” without proper rest or hut bookings

• Layered cold-weather clothing
• Waterproof jacket & pants
• Headlamp for summit assault

• Trekking poles
• Hiking shoes with good grip
• Small backpack with hydration system
• Personal medicine & altitude medication if needed
• Cash in Japanese Yen (many mountain huts are cash only)
IMPORTANT:
Mt. Fuji may look beginner-friendly, but altitude sickness, strong winds, and freezing summit temperatures are common even during summer season. Proper preparation and pacing are essential.
