Once fully implemented, the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project-DavaoBus is expected to employ approximately 3,000 bus drivers.

Priority will be given to affected Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) drivers, who also have the option to endorse family members in their stead. In addition to receiving standardized pay, drivers will operate under a three-shift system with eight-hour schedules. This structure ensures continuous transport services throughout the city while significantly easing the workload for drivers.

LOOK: The sister city partnership between Davao City and Nanning, China—recognized as one of its leading “Green Cities”—continues to highlight strong cooperation as two eco-friendly buses given as a gift from Nanning remain in active use for key public service programs.

Since their donation, the buses have been serving important city functions, showing how the assistance has consistently supported local needs over time.

One unit has been used to ferry public school teachers traveling between the downtown area and Marilog District, helping ease long-standing transport challenges in the upland communities. The other has been utilized for tourism and investment promotion, including transport for visiting investors and official delegations.

The continued use of the buses reflects how the gift from Nanning has provided lasting support to Davao City’s education and economic initiatives.

Davao City and Nanning have maintained their sister city relationship since 2007, with cooperation focused on education, cultural exchange, and sustainable urban development.

Aside from transport support, Nanning has also provided scholarship opportunities for Dabawenyos and engaged in international expos promoting environmental and cultural cooperation, further strengthening ties between the two cities.
