4.So that you will be aware of whats happening to your society.
5.You will know the importance of conserving biological diversity.

Importance of variation in plants and animals breeding to the ecosystem:
PLANTS:
1.Increased quality and yield of the crop
2.Increased tolerance of environmental pressures (salinity, extreme temperature, drought)
3.Resistance to viruses, fungi and bacteria
4.Increased tolerance to insect pests
5.Increased tolerance of herbicides
ANIMALS:
1.To increase the scope and precision of predictions of the outcomes of breeding decisions
2.To avoid the introduction and advance of characteristics deleterious to animal well-being or, more generally, the well-being of the species
3.To manage genetic resources and diversity between and within populations in accordance with the principles set out in the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Human activities that weaken the conservation of these species:
1.Habitat Destruction – Nearly every kind of habitat and ecosystem - be it land, air or water - has been affected by the uncontrollable destruction of habitats by humans.
2.Hunting – Humans are the only animals in this world who hunt for pleasure and not just for food.
3.Pollution – Humans, due to their industrial, agricultural, or normal day to day activities, release a large amount of toxic waste everyday that is ultimately dumped into the air, water, or landfills.
4.Global Warming – The mass consumption of fossil fuels from manufacturing things to running automobiles has led to the release of a very high amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
5.Introduction of exotic species – For many years now there have been many species of plants and animals across the world that have been introduced into non-natural habitats by human activities. Most of the introduction of invasive species has been accidental due to their translocation through ships and planes, but some are deliberate as in when an animal is taken to another part of the world. But the result of this has been the new species either survives with difficulty in the new environment or modifies the surroundings to such an extent that it destroys the natural habitat of other plants and animals of the area ultimately leading to their endangerment.

10 Easy Things You Can Do to Save Endangered Species

1. Learn about endangered species in your area.
2. Visit a national wildlife refuge, park or other open space.
3. Make your home wildlife friendly.
4. Native plants provide food and shelter for native wildlife.
5. Herbicides and pesticides may keep yards looking nice but they are in fact hazardous pollutants that affect wildlife at many levels.
6. Slow down when driving. Many animals live in developed areas and this means they must navigate a landscape full of human hazards.
7. Recycle and buy sustainable products.
8. Never purchase products made from threatened or endangered species.
9. Harassing wildlife is cruel and illegal.
10. Protect wildlife habitat.

Corals. Manta tow surveys covering 33.8 kilometers of reefs in the Gulf showed that only one-fourth of the coral cover was live. Of the 19 areas surveyed, only the corals in Tubalan were in very good condition. Areas with poor values of 10% and below were found in Agdao, Malita and Valez (Toril) in Davao City. Thirty-four genera of hard corals and three genera of soft corals were identified, suggesting high species diversity .

Seagrasses. There were nine species of seagrasses that were observed in 12 sites around the Davao Gulf excluding Davao Oriental (UPVFI, 2000). The seagrass species are Cymodocea rotundata, C. serrudata, Halodule pinifolia, H. uninervis, Syringodium isoetifolium, Halophila minor, H. ovalis, Thalassia hemprichii and Enhalus acoroides. Species diversity varied considerably between areas.

Dugongs (Dugong dugon) or sea cows, which feed on seagrass, have been sighted near the shores of Davao Gulf particularly in the coasts of Malalag, Malita and Don Marcelino in Davao del Sur; IGACOS in Davao del Norte, and Gov. Generoso in Davao Oriental. These timid creatures are likewise endangered under CITES. Dwindling seagrass habitats and other anthropogenic causes contribute to the continued decline of the dugong population.

The durian (/ˈdjʊriən/)[4] is the fruit of several tree species belonging to the genus Durio. The name 'durian' is derived from the Malay-Indonesian languages word for duri or "spike", a reference to the numerous spike protuberances of the fruit, together with the noun-building suffix -an. There are 30 recognised Durio species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit. Durio zibethinus is the only species available in the international market: other species are sold only in their local regions.

Meet Our Eagles – The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) is considered one of the largest eagles in the world. It has the countenance of regal majesty - snowy white plumes dappled with gray, a distinct crested head matched with a pair of sharp eyes and strong curved beak, a powerful eight- foot wingspan, and lethal preying claws. This majestic bird of prey has been saved from extinction and now a national symbol is sheltered at the Philippine Eagle Nature Center in Malagos.

Queen of the Rain forest – On the slopes of Mount Apo, Waling-waling was discovered, an orchid of exceptional attributes with full, velvet petals tinged in royal colors of purple, red, and yellow. So delicate is this stunning bloom that it can only thrive on flesh and balmy air. The Waling-waling (Vanda sanderiana) has since been successfully transplanted from its natural environment and cultivated in many of Davao’s flower farms. Retailing at several hundred dollars a plant, the Queen of the Rain forest has become an attractive business proposition.
