The Province of Dinagat Islands joins the nation in celebrating the 128th Philippine Independence Day, a meaningful occasion that honors the courage, sacrifices, and unwavering patriotism of our heroes who fought for the freedom we enjoy today.
Held at the Capitol Dome in Cuarinta, San Jose, Dinagat Islands, the Kalayaan 2026 Commemoration gathered government officials, educators, uniformed personnel, students, athletes, and community members in a collective tribute to the nation's enduring spirit of independence.
The program commenced with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony led by Provincial Governor Hon. Nilo P. Demerey, Jr., MPM, joined by key officials and partners, followed by a cultural dance presentation that showcased the rich heritage and vibrant identity of the Filipino people.
The celebration continued with inspiring messages from provincial leaders, including Provincial Governor Hon. Nilo P. Demerey, Jr., MPM and Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Florence E. Almaden, CESO VI, highlighting the significance of freedom, nation-building, and the shared responsibility of every Filipino in shaping a stronger future. The event was further enlivened by a remarkable performance from the Trinidad Mapa Gupana National High School Flute Band, whose musical presentation added pride and festivity to the occasion.
Adding to the celebration were outstanding performances by Dinagat Islands' talented athletes, including representatives from Karate, Kickboxing, DanceSport, and other disciplines, whose demonstrations reflected the excellence, discipline, and determination of Dinagatnon youth.
As we commemorate this historic milestone, may the spirit of Kalayaan inspire us not only to remember the sacrifices of our heroes but also to confront the challenges of our time. True freedom is realized when every Filipino is given the opportunity to live with dignity, access quality education, secure livelihoods, and rise above poverty.
In a time when our nation continues to strive for inclusive growth and social progress, let this celebration remind us that nation-building requires more than authorityโit demands service, accountability, and collective action. As aptly emphasized by Governor Hon. Nilo P. Demerey, Jr., MPM, โPower is not a reward, it is a responsibility.โ Guided by this principle, may we continue working together to uplift our communities, empower our people, and build a stronger, more prosperous Philippines for future generations.
