The town was said to have derived from the names of Ding and Ras. Ding was the son of a chieftain called Naaslag, who ruled the northern part of the river of Dingras. Ras, on the otherhand, was the daughter of Allawigan, the chief of the southern part of the river. At one time, these two chiefs were in perennial war with each other. One day, son Ding defeated the warriors of Allawigan. Ding took ras as his prize from the conquered northern ruler and married her. The union ende the feud between Naaslag and Allawigan. As the two kingdoms merged as one great power in the valley, their place became known henceforth known as Dingras.

Founded in 1598, Dingras is one of the oldest towns in Ilocos Norte. In fact, it was the sixth municipalities formed by the Spanish authorities after Batac, San Nicolas, Laoag, Sarrat, and Bacarra. Although it is not the largest town in the province, nevertheless Dingras is the Rice Granary of Ilocos Norte mainly because it has been blessed with fertile fields, vast plains, and substantial water sources.

Dragon Fruit: In the past years, Ilocos Norte has been trying to become the capital of Dragon Fruit plantations. They developed a way to grow these fruits every day of the year. They’ve also come up with different ways to cook with this fruit. They make them into cookies, ice cream, tea and even lumpia.

Sta. Monica Parish Church is a red-brick church built in neo-classical style. It was built in 1779 and was originally known as San Miguel church. Together with the church convent, which is connected to the church with an elevated 3-level brick stairway, forms part of the Sta. Monica Church Complex.

The parish church of Sta. Monica is renowned to be the largest church in the whole of Ilocos province. It is located at Brgy San Leandro (Poblacion) in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte and is 7 km east of Laoag City.

Pagudpud a fourth class municipality and a coastal resort town of Ilocos Norte province, in the northern Ilocos Region of the Philippines. Pagudpud was made a municipality on July 5, 1954. Unlike Laoag City, the province's only autonomous city, Pagudpud derives its authority from the provincial government. It had previously been a part of the neighboring town of Bangui.

Feel the rush of wind from Bangui’s windmills

The Bangui Windmills are located in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The windmills, officially referred to as the NorthWind Bangui Bay Project, were a project by the NorthWind Development Corporation as a practice renewable energy sources and to help reduce the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. The project is the first “Wind Farm” in the Philippines consisting of wind turbines on-shore facing the South China Sea and considered to be the biggest in Southeast Asia. The project sells electricity to the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) and provides 40% of the power requirements of Ilocos Norte via Transco Laoag.
