The proposed Dumaguete Esplanade by DDC Architect is envisioned as a vibrant shoreline destination that reconnects people with nature in the heart of the city. Stretching from Flores Avenue to the crossing of Rovira Road, the project transforms the coastal edge into a welcoming public space designed for leisure, wellness, recreation, and community interaction.

Inspired by Dumaguete’s calm seaside character and growing urban lifestyle, the esplanade is conceptualized as a “breathing space” for the city — a place where residents and visitors can slow down, enjoy the natural environment, and create meaningful experiences with family and friends.

The design integrates wide pedestrian walkways, dedicated bike lanes, tropical landscaping, shaded green parks, seating areas, and open recreational spaces that encourage outdoor activity while preserving the relaxing atmosphere of the shoreline. Native trees and lush planting soften the urban environment and create a cooler, more walkable public realm that promotes both environmental sustainability and human well-being.

One of the key visions of the project is to create a family-oriented waterfront destination where people of all ages can gather safely and comfortably. The proposed open lawns and picnic spaces allow families to spend quality time outdoors, while fitness and activity zones such as biking paths and pickleball courts encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. Resting areas, viewing decks, and shaded sitting spaces provide opportunities for quiet reflection while enjoying the scenic views of the sea.

The esplanade is also designed to strengthen Dumaguete’s identity as a people-centered coastal city. More than just an infrastructure improvement, the project becomes a civic landmark that celebrates public life, tourism, and local culture. By introducing more green open spaces into the urban environment, the development helps improve the overall quality of life while enhancing the visual character of the city shoreline.

Through thoughtful planning and human-centered design, DDC Architect envisions the Dumaguete Esplanade as a modern yet nature-integrated urban destination — a sustainable waterfront corridor that balances recreation, mobility, environmental enhancement, and community connection.

Ultimately, the project aims to provide Dumaguete with a lasting public space where nature and city life coexist harmoniously, creating a healthier, more vibrant, and more livable future for generations to come.
