The Santo Niño at 500 is a solemn celebration of the 500-year milestone of our country's great history. The country's oldest Catholic icon, the Santo Niño, is known for His miracles and people's devotions that transcend religions. In the words of Pope Francis, the Holy Child is the Protector of the Philippines for half a millennium thus His significance both in our history and culture. Looking back at our country's history, our ancestors have gone through numerous triumphs and defeats. It is indeed through the abiding presence of the Father in the Santo Niño that we have thrived this far. With the commemoration of the 500 years of the arrival of the image of Santo Niño, let us remember our struggles and sacrifices as people of God, and pray for the future of the Catholic Church and the Republic of the Philippines.

To celebrate this 500-year milestone, the Order of Saint Augustine Province of Santo Niño de Cebu-Philippines outlined build-up activities that have already started in 2019 and will culminate in 2021. The Augustinians are the first missionaries in the country and the caretakers of the miraculous image since its finding in 1565.

Bulacan is home to various Festivals and Celebrations that are part of our culture and traditions. Bulacan has 16 Festivals, including Tanglawan Festival in San Jose del Monte, Libad Festival in Calumpit, and many more. Malolos Bulacan has a celebration where people unite to express their devotion to the Holy Child, Jesus Christ. This Festival is one of the biggest Festivals in Bulacan and is considered to be the Patron of Malolos, Sto. Niño de Malolos.

Sto. Niño de Malolos is celebrated on the last Sunday of January when people exhibit their own Sto. Nino in a creative way. The Sto. Niños are decorated in Caroza or Caro while wearing their designed clothes or expressions. In front of the Carozas, there are numerous dancers to dance to represent their devotion to the saint. People even name images like Santo Niño de Pulis (Saint of Police), Santo Niño de Panadero (Saint of Bakers), and on and on. All these images are featured in Sunday's Procession around Mary Immaculate Conception Basilica, known as translacion.

This tradition started pre-war and ended because of the Second War. But this tradition was re-established again by Dr. Luis Santos. Years later, the Santo Niño de Malolos established a foundation (1975) further to spread the practice and our devotion to Santo Niño. This foundation also aims for advocacies and donations for those in need or empty-handed. This foundation became one of the leading foundations in Malolos, where people unite to keep their traditions and help others.

The Malolenos considers Sto. Nino is their patron because the child, Sto. Nino embodies Malolos' religious beliefs. It is the most enormous feast that is celebrated every year in Malolos. Malolenos celebrates Sto. Nino de Malolos festival because of the traditions and views made by their ancestors. It became their tradition to celebrate the feast yearly because of their devotion and adoration to the saint.

This Festival dramatically contributes to our history, art, culture, and tradition. It can help the youth understand further and love our devotion. This Festival can unite the people to love our culture and help our folks. We should keep this tradition and spread it in any other way to give the people knowledge and advocate for them to keep it alive.
