The word is coined from the greek verb peripatein; in late Middle English the word denoted an Aristotelian philosopher: from Old French peripatetique, via Latin from Greek peripatētikos, it meant ‘walking up and down. JUAN is the national personification of the Philippines, often used to represent the "Filipino everyman." He is usually depicted wearing the native salakot hat, Barong Tagalog, long pants, and tsinelas.
