Commercial flights from and to Iloilo will soon be available again, but only for Locally-Stranded Individuals (LSIs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), according to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., after meeting with the officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and airlines serving the Iloilo International Airport on June 18, 2020.

The governor said that flights will resume next week, but limited only to LSIs and OFWs due to the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

“Once we open, passengers can buy their tickets and go to the airport, like a regular flight. But of course, there are limitations, because we are still under MGCQ. We still have border restrictions, where the rules are the same, that you cannot enter the province of Iloilo unless you fall under the exceptions, which right now, are OFWs and LSIs,” the governor said.

He said that the flights will also be limited in number, to discourage people from booking tickets immediately and avoid further risk of COVID-19 transmissions.

He added that he is looking to limit the number of passengers to 1,500 per week.

LOOK: List of airports with LGUs that allow commercial flights

As of today, 14 June, there are 23 airports in the country whose Local Government Units (LGUs) have allowed* the commercial operation of flights.

Meanwhile, 9 airports are set to start accepting commercial flights on later dates.

*Some airports, while allowing commercial flights, are subject to different documentary and passenger LGU restrictions.

MANILA, 31 May 2020 – AirAsia is set to gradually resume services in the Philippines on 3 June following the Philippine government’s directive of easing community quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila and several parts of the country.

AirAsia plans to gradually resume domestic operations by June. This is following the Philippine government's decision to upgrade the National Capital Region (NCR) and other areas of the country to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting Monday, June 1.

We are currently checking with aviation authorities and respective LGUs for their own guidelines regarding the opening of local airports, as some may still be closed in June.

Stringent procedures are in place to ensure flight crew and passengers' safety. The new set of measures includes contactless boarding procedures, disinfection of all aircraft and facilities, and the use of High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters inside AirAsia aircrafts.
