A leading high-end French expedition cruise company, Compagnie du Ponant, is considering Iloilo City as one of the stop-over destinations for its upcoming Asian cruise itineraries.

According to the Department of Tourism (DOT)-6, Iloilo City continues to strengthen its reputation as an emerging cruise tourism destination following the successful site inspection conducted by the French cruise company last January.

After experiencing the city’s rich heritage, historical attractions, and diverse culinary offerings, the group returned to Iloilo from May 16 to 18, 2026 for a photo and video shoot aimed at showcasing the city to the international cruise market.

Mayor Raisa S. Treñas also shared the development on her page.

“This leading high-end expedition French cruise company is considering Iloilo City as a stop-over destination in their upcoming Asian cruise itineraries. Led by content producer Julien Fabro, we are delighted that they conducted shoots in various locations across the city, including the Iloilo Terminal Public Market. The content they produce will be used to promote Iloilo to their future guests around the world,” the mayor said.

DOT-6 emphasized that this initiative is expected to further position Iloilo City as a potential destination in Southeast Asian cruise itineraries by highlighting the city’s cultural landmarks, historical sites, and local cuisine to a global audience.

DOT-6 Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez described the development as a significant opportunity to further promote Iloilo’s tourism offerings and strengthen its reputation as a premier tourism destination in the Philippines.

“MV Pacific Venus was the first cruise ship that docked in Iloilo, and we believe it will not be the last,” Rodriguez said. She added that the strong collaboration between the public and private sectors continues to pave the way for Iloilo to be recognized as a cruise ship destination. (Iloilo City PIO)
