The Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), together with DOST Region XII, LGU Polomolok and the Provincial Government of South Cotabato officially launched their Handloom weaving innovation hub facility last June 4, 2026 at Sitio Amgu-o, Brgy. Landan, Polomolok.

This facility helps strengthen Polomolokโ€™s weaving communities through sustainable textile development and the use of indigenous and locally available raw materials. More significantly, in supporting Blaan weavers, by preserving their cultural heritage, and promote the community-driven innovation.

The activity is being conducted in line with the Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. directive to strengthen and support the tourism, culture, and arts programs of South Cotabato, fostering sustainable development and partnership withLGUs and other agencies, cultural preservation, and enhanced visitor experiences throughout the province.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announces the temporary suspension of airport operations at General Santos Airport following the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Sarangani and the tsunami warning issued by PHIVOLCS.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) is in effect from 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM today.

Assessments of air navigation facilities, equipment, and operational capabilities are currently underway to ensure the continued safety and integrity of airport operations.

Passengers are advised to coordinate with their respective airlines for updates on the status of their flights.

Strengthening Tourism Development Through Local Partnerships

As part of its continuing commitment to enhancing the quality of tourism experiences across the province, the South Cotabato Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Museum (ACTM) Unit is strengthening its collaboration with Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) through the development and alignment of local Tourism Development Plans.

The Municipality of Sto. Niรฑo recently took an important step toward materializing its Tourism Development Plan through a planning session facilitated by its local tourism leadership, with technical guidance and support from the ACTM Unit. Serving as a jumpstart to the municipality's tourism planning process, the activity presented the framework, Terms of Reference, and key requirements necessary to guide the formulation of a comprehensive and strategic tourism roadmap. This initial undertaking lays the groundwork for a tourism development plan that will identify priorities, maximize local tourism assets, and create a clear direction for the municipality's tourism growth in the years ahead.

A key focus of the engagement was the presentation of the Provincial Tourism Development Plan of South Cotabato and the discussion of its possible alignment with the municipality's forthcoming Tourism Development Plan. This process aims to ensure that local tourism priorities, programs, and development strategies complement the broader vision and objectives of the province. By fostering alignment between provincial and municipal tourism plans, South Cotabato continues to build a more coordinated tourism framework that strengthens destination connectivity, enhances visitor experiences, and maximizes opportunities for sustainable tourism growth.

By working closely with local governments, the ACTM Unit continues to promote a shared vision for tourism developmentโ€”one that prioritizes sustainability, cultural integrity, destination readiness, and service excellence. These partnerships enable municipalities to identify their unique tourism assets while contributing to the broader goals of provincial tourism growth and competitiveness.

The planning session also provided a venue to discuss opportunities and challenges in tourism development. While concerns and perceived challenges were identified, the discussions concluded with optimism and a collective commitment to move forward through collaboration, strategic planning, and shared responsibility.

As South Cotabato continues to position itself as a premier cultural, eco-tourism, and heritage destination, the ACTM Unit remains steadfast in its mission of empowering local governments, strengthening tourism governance, and ensuring that every tourism initiative contributes to a more organized, sustainable, and high-quality tourism experience for both visitors and host communities.

Bilang suporta sa pagdiriwang ng National ICT Month 2026, nagbigay ng mensahe si Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. sa ginanap na Kick-Off Activity sa South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center. Sa kanyang pahayag, binigyang-diin niya ang mahalagang papel ng digitalization sa pagpapabilis ng mga proseso sa pamahalaan at sa pagpapahusay ng paghahatid ng serbisyo sa mamamayan.
Ibinahagi rin ng gobernador ang ilan sa mga matagumpay na digital initiatives na naipatupad sa lalawigan, kabilang ang COVID-19 Contact Tracing System (CCTS) at electronic medical records sa mga government-run hospitals. Sa pamamagitan ng makabagong teknolohiya, mas napapadali ang pag-access sa serbisyo, mas napapahusay ang pamamahala ng impormasyon, at mas nagiging episyente ang pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng mga South Cotabateรฑo.
