A delegation of elected and appointed barangay officials from Oriental Mindoro recently embarked on an enriching benchmarking tour and enhancement training in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The initiative focused on strengthening the implementation of Katarungang Pambarangay (KP) and providing crucial Gender and Development (GAD) orientation, aiming to elevate the quality and efficiency of public services at the grassroots level.
The delegates, comprising Punong Barangays, Lupon Chairmen, Secretaries, Treasurers, and VAWC Desk Officers, were keen on learning best practices from Laoag City's successful barangay governance. Leading the contingent was the esteemed DILG Provincial Director of Oriental Mindoro, Ms. Maria Victoria J. Del Rosario, CSEE. She was joined by MLGOO DILG Pinamalayan, Mr. Carlo Cruzado; Cluster Head LGOO VII of Oriental Mindoro, Mr. Ariel R. Genio; and ABC President of Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, Hon. Raul M. Miciano.
Upon their arrival, the delegates received a warm welcome from the Laoag City Tourism Office, headed by the Tourism Officer, Atty. Charito T. Malicad. Atty. Malicad not only extended greetings but also captivated the audience with an insightful discussion on Laoag City's rich culture and vibrant traditions, emphasizing the city's commitment to tourism sustainability. This cultural immersion provided a broader understanding of the local context and how it contributes to community development.
The training sessions proved to be highly informative. Ms. Charise Garma, CLGOO VI of DILG Laoag, shared invaluable knowledge and expertise on fostering quality and efficiency in public services. Her presentation delved into practical strategies and mechanisms that barangay officials can adopt to enhance their administrative and service delivery functions.
A significant highlight of the tour was the session led by Punong Barangay Manny Morales of Barangay 1, San Lorenzo. His barangay stands as a beacon of excellence, having earned numerous awards and recognition. Kap. Manny generously shared the secrets to their success, offering practical insights into effective barangay governance, community engagement, and innovative solutions to common challenges faced by local communities.
This experience is expected to significantly contribute to the continuous improvement of public services and the empowerment of communities back in Oriental Mindoro.
