Some gifts are not meant to be worn—they are meant to be tasted, remembered, and shared. 💛🌾

As a Lakambini of the Culinary Generals of the Philippines, receiving this Inartem a Sarguelas is such a meaningful reminder of how rich and unique Ilocano culinary heritage truly is. My heartfelt gratitude to the elder who grew up with my grandfather and gifted this delicacy with so much warmth and memory attached to it. ✨

For many outside the region, inartem is more than just “pickled fruit.” It is an age-old Ilocano preservation tradition deeply rooted in practicality, seasonality, and flavor—where fruits, vegetables, and spices are soaked in authentic Sukang Iloko and salt to create that distinct sour, salty, and slightly spicy profile Ilocanos love.

This particular one, Inartem a Sarguelas, highlights the beautiful balance between preservation and local abundance. Alongside favorites like balayang, green mangoes, santol, karmay, and tamarind, it reflects the ingenuity of our ancestors in making seasonal produce last while transforming them into flavorful appetizers and companions to grilled dishes and simple meals. 🌿🍶

As someone passionate about culinary tourism, I always believe that food tells stories just as powerfully as museums and landmarks do. Inartem speaks of Ilocano resilience, resourcefulness, patience, and love for bold flavors. It is heritage preserved inside a jar.

This also reminds me why places like Cabugao are celebrated for their roadside sinukaan stalls and why these traditions deserve continuous documentation, promotion, and appreciation by future generations.

Agyamanak unay for this thoughtful and culturally rich gift. May our traditional foodways continue to thrive—not only in our kitchens, but in the hearts of Ilocanos everywhere. 🌾✨

Honored to witness the inauguration of Amianan: Ilocos Norte Museum and Library of History and Culture at the beautiful Sitio Remedios Heritage Village in celebration of its 20th anniversary—a meaningful milestone dedicated to preserving the stories, artistry, and identity of Ilocandia. 🏛️✨

A heartfelt thank you to the curators, cultural workers, Sir Raymund and especially Dr. Joven Cuanang for creating a space where history is not only displayed, but truly experienced and remembered.

As a tour guide and Lakambini, one of the most emotional moments for me was seeing my great grandfather, Roque B. Ablan Sr., included among the Gallery of Heroes of Ilocos Norte. It was a powerful reminder that history lives on through stories passed from one generation to another. 💛

The experience became even more enriching after learning from historian Ambeth R. Ocampo, whose lecture reminded us that history should never remain flat or one-dimensional. His discussions about Juan Luna, Artemio Ricarte, and Gregorio Aglipay gave deeper context to the complexities of heroism, nationalism, identity, and sacrifice in Philippine history.

Through his storytelling, we are reminded that heroes were real people—with flaws, convictions, passions, and struggles—and that understanding history requires curiosity beyond memorized dates and names. For us in tourism and heritage interpretation, this is invaluable because it teaches us to tell stories with more depth, humanity, and meaning. 📖✨

I also deeply admire Dr. Cuanang’s lifelong passion for antiques, cultural artifacts, and heritage preservation. His appreciation for old objects goes beyond collecting—he understands that every ancestral piece, religious image, furniture, textile, and photograph carries memory and meaning. Through Sitio Remedios and now Amianan Museum, he continues to prove that preserving heritage is preserving identity itself. 🌾

The gathering was also a beautiful convergence of artists, historians, collectors, and cultural heritage enthusiasts, including the opportunity to meet National Artist BenCab and individuals who continue to champion Philippine arts and culture.

Amianan Museum is more than a museum—it is a bridge connecting Ilocanos to their roots and inviting future generations to appreciate the richness of our stories, struggles, and culture.

Congratulations once again on this inspiring milestone. May it continue to educate, preserve, and inspire for many years to come. ✨

An evening of history, heritage, and meaningful reflection at Sitio Remedios. 🌙📖

Grateful to have attended “The Moon, The Viper, & The Bishop: Heroes of Ilocandia” led by the brilliant historian Ambeth R. Ocampo, whose storytelling once again reminded us that history is far more alive, complex, and human than what we simply read in textbooks.

As a tour guide, learning more deeply about Ilocano heroes like Juan Luna, Artemio Ricarte, and Gregorio Aglipay was truly enriching.

We often speak of Luna as the great painter behind Spoliarium, but the lecture allowed us to see him beyond the canvas—a passionate nationalist whose life reflected both brilliance and struggle during a turbulent colonial period. His story reminds us that art itself can become a form of resistance and national identity. 🎨🇵🇭

Learning about General Artemio Ricarte—the “Viper” of the revolution—was equally fascinating. His unwavering loyalty to Philippine independence, refusal to swear allegiance to foreign powers, and lifelong dedication to freedom reflected a rare kind of conviction and patriotism that continues to inspire generations.

And of course, Bishop Gregorio Aglipay, whose influence reached beyond religion into nationalism and reform, showed how faith and patriotism became deeply intertwined during the Philippine struggle for identity and independence. Understanding his role helped contextualize many of the historical and cultural narratives we continue to encounter throughout Ilocos today. ⛪✨

What I appreciate most about listening to Ambeth Ocampo is how he transforms historical figures from distant names into real people with emotions, contradictions, dreams, and sacrifices. It reminds us that heritage interpretation is not only about dates and facts—it is about telling stories in a way that people genuinely connect with.

As someone in tourism, evenings like this deepen my responsibility to share Ilocano history more meaningfully and accurately with every guest I guide across the North. 💛

Spent a meaningful day at Lapog ni Guia, a promising new agri-tourism destination that beautifully showcases the future of farm tourism in the North.

More than just a farm, Lapog ni Guia offers a complete countryside experience—🌱 farm-to-table dining, 🛏️ a cozy bed and breakfast, 🚜 immersive farm experiences, and an inspiring agri-learning environment where guests can reconnect with nature and understand where food truly comes from.

As a tour guide, this is the kind of destination I love recommending because tourists can look forward to more than sightseeing—they get to experience sustainability, local culture, wellness, and authentic Ilocano hospitality all in one place. 💚

What made the gathering even more special was being surrounded by fellow farm tourism advocates and site owners discussing how we can collaborate further to help strengthen and grow farm tourism in the Ilocos Region through local, homegrown products and shared advocacy.

From the rich black rice of Onera Integrated Farm in Batac, refreshing lemongrass juice and produce from Connor’s Farm in Badoc, flavorful balsamic vinegar from Inuwayan, roasted cashews, Thai basil, fresh lettuces, and aquaculture harvests from Lapog ni Guia—everything reflected the beauty of true farm-to-table dining. 🍚🌿🍋🐟

This is the direction tourism should continue moving toward: sustainable, educational, community-centered, and proudly local.

Highly recommending for DOT Accreditation and recognition as an ATI Learning Site because places like this deserve to be highlighted and supported as models for responsible and innovative agri-tourism. 🌱🇵🇭
