🇵🇭 Why MAIFIP Feels Wrong — And Why It Matters to every Filipino

We all want a health system that protects people — not one that forces them to beg for help.

That’s not universal care — that’s selective care.

⚖️ The Supreme Court already struck down pork‑style programs that let politicians decide who gets public funds. ( PDAF ).
MAIFIP feels like a return to that old system.

💔 When health care becomes political, patients lose dignity.
💔 When funds bypass UHC, the system weakens.
💔 When programs depend on discretion, inequality grows.

Filipinos deserve a health system that is:

✅ Free from political mediation

Whale Sharks In Oslob: Swiming With The Gentle Giants
Oslob's whale shark watching began around 2011 when local fishermen started feeding "tuki" (whale sharks) krill, drawing them to shore daily, transforming a nuisance into a major tourism attraction in Barangay Tan-awan, despite ethical debates over the feeding's impact on the endangered giants' natural behaviors and migration. Once seen as pests, these "gentle giants" now support the local economy, but the feeding practice raises concerns about wildlife welfare, contrasting with stricter sites like Donsol, Sorsogon, which prioritize conservation.
Early Encounters & Shift to Tourism (Pre-2011)
"Pests" to "Gentle Giants": Whale sharks frequented Oslob's waters since the 1980s, but fishermen viewed them as pests for destroying nets and scaring away other fish.
The Feeding Begins (2011): In Tan-awan, a fisherman named Jerson Soriano started hand-feeding a whale shark with shrimp, leading more sharks to return daily.
