According to Antonio Pigafetta, a member of Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage and the primary eyewitness to the Battle of Mactan, on April 27, 1521, more than 500 years ago, Lapulapu, the chieftain of Mactan Island, led his warriors in a decisive stand against Magellan’s forces.
