Bonsai Forest: Loreto’s Rising Summer Capital Calls for Responsible Tourism

LORETO, Dinagat Islands: The trail to Bonsai Forest in Mt. Redondo is getting busier and that’s good news for Loreto. As the office continues to receive tourists drawn to the dwarf trees and cool mountain air, the Municipal Tourism Office is doubling down on one thing: protecting the forest while welcoming the world.

Your Visit Starts with a Booking and an Orientation

To keep the experience safe and sustainable, Loreto now requires all visitors to book 1 day before their visit. No walk-ins. But the trip doesn’t start at the trailhead. It starts in orientation. Every group must attend a mandatory orientation before heading to Bonsai Forest. Here, the team walks guests through the site’s rules and regulations, explains key Ordinances and Resolutions, and delivers one clear message: "Leave No Trace." Take your trash with you. Stay on the trail. Respect the plants. Because Bonsai Forest isn’t just a photo spot, it’s a living treasure that we’re preparing to become the Summer Capital of the Province of Dinagat Islands.

Through the booking system and mandatory orientation, the Tourism Office ensures that every guest understands: enjoying Bonsai Forest also means protecting it. So come. Breathe the mountain air. See the pygmy forest that took decades to grow.

LORETO TOURISM OFFICE CLOSES JULY 2026 WITH AWARDS, TRAININGS, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT

"A Paradise in a Distance" Grows Stronger Through Learning and Unity.

LORETO, Dinagat Islands, July 2026 was a month of learning, recognition, and action for the Municipal Tourism Office of Loreto as it pushed forward programs to strengthen culture, build capacities, and bring the community together under the banner "A Paradise in a Distance."

The month opened on a high note. On July 9, the office attended virtually via Zoom the Caraga Tourism Officers’ Summit and Pasidungog 2026. Loreto proudly brought home two awards: the Plaque of Recognition for Training Commendation and the Excellence in Training Partnership for LGU. The recognition highlights the municipality’s commitment to continuous learning and strong collaboration with the Department of Tourism in building a world-class tourism workforce.

Capacity-building continued mid-month. From July 16 to 17, Tourism staff Marlon Ubas and Ronald Ferma joined the Festival Enhancement Management Training for the Bugkosan sa Isla Festival. The training focused on elevating the festival as a signature cultural event that reflects Loreto’s identity and attracts more visitors to the island.

A week later, from July 21 to 23, three tourism practitioners, Dario Fracks Apole (Tourism Officer), Lina Rose Estor, and Clint Anthony Jamera participated in the Makanayon Leadership Training for Tourism Practitioners. The training aimed to develop new leaders who can champion community-based tourism and uphold Loreto’s values of inclusivity and service.

Beyond training, the office also strengthened governance and community ties. On July 24, the Tourism Office successfully conducted its 3rd Quarter Regular Municipal Tourism, Culture and Arts Council Meeting. Regular members gathered to review accomplishments, align plans, and ensure that tourism, culture, and arts programs remain responsive to the needs of Loretonhons.

The month ended with a celebration of unity and heritage. On July 27, the office initiated the Larong Lahi Inter-Agency Competition, bringing together different government offices in fun, traditional Filipino games. More than just competition, the activity promoted teamwork, cultural appreciation, and the spirit of bayanihan, reminding everyone that tourism is not only about destinations, but also about people.

From earning regional recognition to training frontliners and engaging the community, the Loreto Tourism Office showed that progress comes when we invest in people, culture, and partnerships.

As the municipality moves closer to its vision of becoming a resilient, world-class tourism and culture capital, July 2026 stands as proof: Loreto is learning, growing, and celebrating one step at a time.
