While we have all travelled in some ways, there are trips that ultimately hone us as persons which make our passion for travelling ignite further, which opens our eyes to the realities on ground, or which makes us change how we see a destination. 🍃 This month, we asked some of our employees on what is the trip that changed how they see the Philippines. Check out this reflection by Joshua from our Inbound Operations Department:

"Although I’ve traveled to many provinces across the Philippines, nothing compares to my experience on the TAO Expedition (El Nido–Coron route). Exploring remote islands that are far from the usual tourist destinations revealed a raw and authentic side of the country, making me appreciate the Philippines beyond its famous attractions. This trip reminded me that the Philippines’ true beauty lies not only in its landscapes but also in its simplicity. Living without gadgets or the internet helped me appreciate nature, meaningful connections, and the present moment. Sometimes, disconnecting from the world is exactly what we need to reconnect with ourselves."

Check out this reflection by Anne from our Sales and Marketing Department:

“One of my first leisure travels in the country changed how I see the Philippines. It was more than a decade ago when I had more liberty on spontaneously booking trips; a friend and I decided to book a trip for Bacolod-Iloilo-Guimaras because we felt like these are good destinations. And our gut feeling was right! It was the trip which made me understand Filipino hospitality much better– it was kindness without conditions; where if you ask people, they would go beyond their way instead of just stating an answer. They would even suggest and recommend better routes, where to go for more yummy food, or even what to add in your itinerary. It was also a trip where I saw the beautiful lives of the Filipinos, where joys are found even in the simplest of things. This trip left me wanting more to discover, and wanting more stories to tell.”✒️

Social media and blog posts are full of it– how to pack for travel, either how to pack for a different season, or how to pack lightly. But, let’s face it, a packing list will always be subjective and there might be no ultimate list since it all boils down to preference and need. This month, we bring you some lists that one will either agree on or will make their eyebrows raise.

Aside from underwear, socks, workout clothes, and sometimes swimwear, most clothes can be re-worn while traveling. Frequent flyers suggest reserving airplane outfits for transit days to avoid transferring odors. Outerwear can be worn multiple times to save space, and some base layers or fabrics are odor-resistant and quick-drying, making them suitable for reuse. Since time immemorial, there has been a debate on the “what-ifs” of packing vs bringing what is needed only. Minimalists argue that carrying a number of suitcases limit mobility, may cause injury, and may increase baggage fees. On the other hand, “just-in-case” travellers also offer a solid point as many destinations have varying weather conditions, some necessities are needed for special occasion trips or just-in-case there’s a special event or happening (e.g. attending a play, or going to a fine dining restaurant) or the need to be ready for unforeseen circumstances. With the noise of the world and everyday life, one can truly surmise that sometimes, silence is luxury. In recent times, travel media outlets have reported trends where travellers are seeking quieter, personalized escapes. This month, we talk about some of these trends, and some destinations where one can do this in the Philippines.

While it is ironic, more and more social media contents are telling us to lessen our doom-scrolling. In an age where heads bent down, fingers mindlessly scrolling, eyes continuously full is the usual sight whether we’re commuting, at a restaurant, or at home, there are those purveying the analog life to go back to life undisturbed. To reset or to have quietcations, it is recommended to turn off our notifications and really use those PTOs. Why not catch up on your reading? Currently trending is Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary, and Rachel Reid’s Heated Rivalry. Or pursue that sketching hobby, and/or catch up on some board games such as Dominion, Jaipur, or the ever-trending Cards Against Humanity. We also recommend going to destinations where mobile phone signals may have patchy connections, but connection with nature and with one another instead can create better bonds–take for example Mount Purro Nature and Reserve in Rizal Province where guests can trek, swim in a nearby river, and plant native trees or fruit seedlings.
