Baliwag Navigation, Inc. Manning Company Baliwag Navigation, Inc. Company Profile

Established in 27 June 1972, Baliwag Navigation, Inc. (BSAI). The Baliwag Shipping Group

1.

is a 100% Filipino-owned corporation engaged in shipping and other marine related business activities. Since its founding, BNI has progressively expanded its business activities and has become the flagship corporation of its numerous subsidiaries. Besides shipowning and ship operations, it eventually extended full shipmanagement and manning services to ocean-going vessels. Shipowning and Ship Oper

ations

Upon the organization of BNI in 1972, it acquired and operated log carriers ranging from 4,500 to 10,000 DWT which were engaged in the log-trade within Asian countries. Most of these vessels were operated in cooperation with BNI's Japanese business associate, Shuwa Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. In 1984, when the volume of log-trade dropped, BNI decided to enter the liner and breakbulk trade. BNI applied for membership with the Japan/Philippines Liner Conference, and it became the fifth Philippine shipping company to be admitted. For this purpose, BNI organized a wholly-owned subsidiary, the Westwind Shipping Corporation which handled the liner cargo. Westwind was to become one of the two steadfast Filipino shipping companies to survive in the Japan-Phil Liner Conference when severe economic recession in the region persisted in the mid-1980's, and during the Asian financial crisis of 1997. At present, BNI maintains a fleet of five (5) general cargo vessels, all of which are used in its ship operations, in line with the commitment of the company to give the best service to its customers in the seaborne trade. Shipmanagement

To furnish expert shipping services is the thrust of BNI, and first-class quality is our primary tool. In 1996, BNI became one of the very the first Philippine shipping company to be issued a Document of Compliance for having complied with the internationally mandated ISM Code (International Code for Safe Shipmanagement and Prevention of Water Pollution) with Nippon Kaiji Kyokai as the certifying organization. BNI is also a very active member of the Filipino Shipowners Association (FSA), an assembly of Filipino shipping companies engaged in international trade. FSA safeguards the development of Philippine shipping industry by lobbying for important legislature and other government decisions affecting the course of shipping in the Philippines. Manning Services

In 1975, BNI became one of the very first manning companies to provide an all-Filipino complement for Panamax and Capesize bulk carriers operated by Japanese and Hongkong principals. At the moment, BNI is providing crew management services to fifty-six (56) ocean going vessels, ranging from 8,000 DWT dry cargo vessels up to 180,000 DWT Capesize bulk carriers. BNI has a pool of over 1,200 well-trained and experienced deck and engine officers and ratings. BNI boasts of a high retention rate among its officers and crew, over 95%. Almost 70% of its junior and senior officers, including masters and chief engineers, started with the company as apprentices. Furthermore, the variety of vessels in the BNI fleet furnishes the company with great flexibility in manning vessel plying any voyage route in the world. Lastly, BNI has been certified to having complied with the ISO-9002 Standard for Manning Services since 1996 under Class NK - proof of BNI's dedication to quality service in the field of crew management. Maritime Training and Education

Believing that investment in training of seafarers is the key to safe and efficient ship operation, BNI's corporate strategy focuses on manpower development. Our commitment to sea service extends even to fundamental maritime education. In 1994, BNI also established the Baliwag Maritime Academy (BMA) in Baliwag, Bulacan to ensure itself that it will have deck and engineers who underwent excellent education and training. BMA offers 4-year degree courses in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering. At present, the BMA cadets board BNI vessels for a year-long apprenticeship program prior to their graduation. The vessels owned and operated by Baliwag Shipping Group are also utilized as training vessels for the cadets of BMA and for the training of junior and senior officers and engineers. Ship Agency and Other Technical Services

Another company under BNI's umbrella is the Baliwag Shipping Agencies, Inc. BSAI provides local agency servcies to ocean going vessels of BNI's Principals calling at Philippine ports, and for the liner vessels operated by Westwind Line. BSAI's more than three (3) decades experience in shiphandling and agency has given it a broad network and familiarity in various Philippine ports. BNI can also tap its pool of senior Masters and Chief Engineers to ensure that the technical requirements of the company and its foreign principals will be fully served. BNI extends its technical expertise to its principals who require assistance in overseeing repairs and regular maintenance of their ships in Philippine shipyards, or in supervision new building vessels. Involved with shipowning, ship management, and manning services to Asian shipowners and managers.
