Pasig City has been selected as a global finalist in the 2025 Bloomberg Mayors Challenge, an international competition that honors innovative solutions to pressing urban issues.
Two other Philippine cities, Naga City and Cauayan in Isabela, also join Pasig among the 50 worldwide finalists chosen for developing ideas to improve government services for their citizens.
This year’s challenge focuses on concepts related to sustainability, public health, job creation, and essential services. The finalists will receive support from the program to test and refine their proposed solutions.
Liveable Cities Philippines, a local partner of Bloomberg Philanthropies, commended the Philippine cities for their practical and responsive ideas.
“These recognitions show that cities in the Philippines are thinking ahead and acting on the challenges they face,” said Guillermo M. Luz, chairman of Liveable Cities Philippines.
“Local leaders are closest to the people. When given the space and support, they find ways to solve problems and improve lives,” Luz added.
All 50 finalists will receive expert support over the coming months to further develop their proposals.
In early 2026, 25 cities will be chosen as winners, each receiving $1 million (P56,632 million) to implement their projects.
Liveable Cities Philippines said it will continue to work with Pasig, Naga, and Cauayan as they advance to the next round of the challenge. SOURCE: Philippine Information Agency
