CBK Café Manila has officially closed its doors on Saturday, ending its nearly three-year run in Binondo.

Known as a rooftop restaurant-café, CBK began operations in early 2023 and quickly became a favorite among foodies for its diverse menu — offering burgers, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, and other Western-style comfort food not typically associated with Binondo’s predominantly Chinese dining scene.

“This isn’t just a goodbye — it’s a thank you,” the establishment said in a statement released Friday. “CBK Café Manila’s last day of operations will be today, January 31, 2026, carrying with us all the beautiful memories you helped create. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our story.”

“Every cup was a blessing, and every visit meant the world to us. Forever grateful for this chapter we shared,” the statement added.

CBK Café Manila took over the space previously occupied by R Café+Bar, a popular rooftop spot in Binondo that shut down in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before its closure, R Café was known as one of Chinatown MNL’s early rooftop dining destinations, attracting both locals and tourists until lockdowns and prolonged restrictions forced it to close.

When people think of dining along Benavidez Street, Wai Ying often comes to mind first. But just across from it sits a quiet institution that has been holding its own for half a century and is every bit as satisfying when it comes to Filipino-Chinese comfort food — at prices noticeably cheaper than most nearby restaurants.

EatingTime, a modest carinderia located directly in front of Wai Ying, has been serving loyal customers since the era of Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. Seven administrations later, it remains firmly in place, sustained by generations of its longtime patrons, many of whom live in the area and its surrounding districts.

Its best-sellers include maki-mi, beef mami, its famous kiampong, its signature meatball noodle soup, and congee. While the menu is deliberately limited, EatingTime also carries Chinatown MNL staples such as siopao, siomai, dumplings, and pancit canton, along with rotating daily rice toppings, all at prices that make it an easy everyday choice rather than a splurge.

Also highly recommended: their lumpiang toge and meatballs.

Have you eaten at EatingTime? 🥢🍽️ What’s your favorite?

Adding lights to this old, forgotten bridge has totally made a huge difference, especially at this time of night. Though it’s not a famous landmark, Hong Bon Bridge still has a quiet charm that deserves to be cared for. While it’s definitely forgotten, poorly maintained, and a little rough around the edges, it’s not too late to restore and preserve this piece of Chinatown MNL’s history.
