Guimaras Paddle and Sail and Panay Waterman
Sharing the Joy of the Sea at the 3rd Guimaras Hammock Festival in Yato Island, Barangay Panabolon, Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. What made this celebration even more meaningful for us was the opportunity to serve the community and festival-goers through a FREE Paddle Clinic and FREE Paddling Experience for the children, fisherfolk, and event participants.
From the first splash of paddles on the water, the shoreline came alive with laughter and excitement. The island children learned with incredible ease and confidence—as if the sea itself was guiding them. Truly, paddling and sailing run in their blood. They balanced, stroked, and glided naturally, showing that they are born from the ocean and shaped by the waves. Their joy was contagious, spreading to parents, fisherfolk, and even to visitors who paddled with them for the first time.
The fisherfolk and festival participants also embraced the experience with open hearts. Many tried stand-up paddling for the very first time, discovering not only the thrill of gliding on water but also the importance of water safety, balance, and respect for the sea. What started as a simple activity turned into shared moments of courage, learning, and laughter between locals and visitors alike.
Seeing children, parents, and guests all paddling together on the same waters was a powerful reminder of what these events are truly about—connection, culture, community, and conservation. Every smile, every successful balance, and every fearless paddle stroke became a celebration of island life
