DPWH COMPLETES ROAD, BRIDGE PROJECTS ALONG SAN JOSE-PALAUIG ROAD

The improvement of the 1.4-kilometer section of the San Jose-Palauig Road, construction of a 105-lineal meter bridge, and the installation of protection netting measuring 1,420 square meters were completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways - Tarlac 1st District Engineering Office.

According to District Engineer Neil C Farala, the completed structures worth P151.42-million are part of the 36.925-kilometer access road project that connects San Jose in Tarlac and Palauig in Zambales.

“We also expect a reduction in travel time between the two provinces and that this new road will be able to contribute to the improvement of the local eco-tourism industry,” DE Farala added.

The local DPWH official also said that there are still several sections of this multi-year access road project that are still under construction until it finally opens in 2023.

“We know the importance of these projects which is why we are closely monitoring and at the same time fast-tracking its implementation to meet the project’s target opening,” DE Farala said.

GOOD NEWS MONDAYS:

The rich and diverse 17,000-hectare Mount Tapulao is Central Luzon’s tallest mountain, and the second tallest mountain in all of Luzon Island after Mt. Pulag in Benguet. It rises to about 2,037 meters above sea level (masl) and straddles the towns of Masinloc, Palauig, and Iba in Zambales as well as parts of Tarlac. The mountain was named after the Sumatran Pine "tapulao", which grows abundantly in the Zambales mountain range.

Mount Tapulao is one of the key biodiversity areas in the country. It is home to at least 304 species of plants and animals. The murid rodents Rhyncomys tapulao and Apomys brownorum can only be found in this mountain. It is also home to three species of birds classified as Vulnerable and 13 classified as threatened. There is also one critically endangered plant species found here. By protecting Mt. Tapulao, we are able to help keep these species .

Let's take pride in having such an important biodiversity area in Region 3!
